Hey guys had an eventful weekend/ week with the talon.. blew a coolant line Friday night, replaced it in the rain. Drove it to my friends and it shut off in his driveway. We pushed it up his drive way into his garage. Found out I didn't put enough antifreeze back in and we didn't bleed the coolant system when I filled it back up. So we fixed all that. I started the car up and my oil light was on. I'd rev it a little bit and it would turn off, and then turn back on as I let off the gas and it went to idle. Eventually it turned off. Drove it all week fine with no problems. Got in it today started it up to let it warm up and it was on when I got in it to leave. I reved it up like I did before but it didn't go away this time. I shut it off and checked the oil and it's still showing it's full??? Started it back up and drove to work. And it stayed on the whole time. Anyone know what's going on with it?

The oil light is not a full/empty sensor, it's a pressure sensor. You either have a bad connection/bad sending unit, or your oil pump shit the bed. One is easy to fix, the other, not so much. Get a cheap mechanical gauge and find out what you'r oil pressure really is.

Alright well i know the oil pump is newish. Was put in when the engine was rebuilt. So ill check out the sending unit.... smh.. I don't think this car likes me.. so is it safe to still drive or no?

Not until you find out if it's just a sending unit or not. Just because the pump is new doesn't mean it isn't bad.

Oil pressure is not something to mess around with. If it's low, it will lead to catastrophic damage

Ugh. Shit. Well i guess I'll give my mechanic a call and see when he can get it in. I don't have any way of getting it to my friends since he's in Canada till next month. Luckily my mechanic is close to my work.

If it was the oil pump wouldn't it make noise?

When mine shit the bed, no. The only time is made a sound when my engine seized tight on the freeway.

I called my mechanic. He used to work for mitsu and built these and the 2gs. He said since the oil pressure gage is still working and I have oil it's probably a bad connection or the sending unit for the light is going out and said it won't blow up. I have to wait till next Friday to take it in. So ill just drive it home, and park it for a couple days and see if it stays off then, until I can take it to him

Yeah true that especially since the engine was just rebuilt already LOL. Luckily i only live 4 miles from my work!

Thinking of ordering a aftermarket oil pressure gauge so I can have my mechanic install it while he has it. Recommendations for a electronic one that's under 100?

While I can't recommend you an electronic one for under 100 (typically they are double that), i would definitely recommend going with an electronic oil gauge, or make reallyyyy sure that the mechanical gauge is installed correctly. you don't want oil running in your passenger's compartment or in your dash if the line comes off or what have you.

Do you have any other gauges you need to match?

If not I've had great luck with AEM oil pressure gauges. With any electronic gauge however I use a remote adaptor to isolate it from vibrations.

I have a boost gauge not sure the brand off hand though. And alright thanks. My car vibrates he'll a bad with the new body and engine mount bushings. It's really stiff :)

It'd an auto meter boost gauge. I took my checks to the bank and drove it there. Light was still on.. /

Hey guys do you think it could be possible that my oil got to hot when I blew that coolant hose and it broke the oil down to much and that's causing the light?

No. Definitely not. If the light is on all the time the sensor connection is bad or the sensor went out, I've had both happen. What does your gauge read while driving????

If your gauge reads normal, and you can see the pressure rise as the rpm goes up then I would guess the sensor is just bad. This will also tell you that the oil pump is ok, because its job is to generate more pressure as it spins faster.

If the light is only on at idle or low rpm and goes away while driving, and the gauge also reads lower than normal or almost 0 you could have a bad problem. When it happened to me my built motor had shit out a main bearing. Still drove just fine, but that was the sign as the sensor for that light is essentially an on/off switch - the light goes on when pressure is below 5psi (that's bad).

Lol my talon is just as reliable as my 350z. The guy I bought it from new what he was doing when he built it. And he's stillhhelping me do things on it :)
