Where is the cheapest place to buy a catback? Ebay has them for like 100 but I am looking to find it for cheaper.. I read about people finding them for 60-70.. That's what I'm looking to spend.. I've browsed the classifieds for months and no one has what I am looking for.

Yeah your going to have to make your own or buy used of craigslist in your area. There is no way you will find a quality used exhaust for under $100.

Start shopping around for a name brand exhaust and then you will realized how cheap 100$ for one really is.

This is kind of a rediculous thread man. Save your money until you have at LEAST 100 and buy one of the cheapest exhausts on ebay buddy. A good exhaust goes for like 250-600 so consider 100 cheap

You car get a good exhaust system on ebay for under $200 shipped, but that's already less the half the price that some name brand companies charge. If you can't afford to spend that much, you can't afford to buy an aftermarket cat-back exhaust system (at least not new).

Honestly think about how much shipping alone costs. So basically you want a $15 full exhaust plus shipping. Not going to happen.

PVC pipe ftw;)

Ok, well I made this thread because many people have said good things about ebay exhausts and I don't care about having a brand named exhaust that is probably only a little better than the ebay one if that. I used to see the same catbacks on ebay that are on there today but they were close to 70 shipped and full exhausts were close to 150 shipped. So for all the "are you serious" responses.. Yes, I am serious.. I figured maybe there was a place that still sold them for cheaper than what I am seeing on ebay nowadays.

Also, I said nothing about not being able to afford a catback.. I just don't want to spend more on a "quality" exhaust when I know from searching this forum that ebay exhausts are good enough, especially for my purposes.

well if you wait long enough till i realize i couldnt afford my rebuild, buy another car, buy a house and party i will definitely sell you my 3" catback exhaust for 60!

Well the cheapest place to buy a new exhaust system is ebay. Also as someone else said, a lot of ebay listings are "buy it nows" for ridiculously low prices with equally ridiculously high shipping costs. They do this so when initially looking at the listing, some will think it's a better deal then it is.

not only that thats nothing to the reality of why the price is so low and shipping is so high.... ready....

because they know you will complain about the product so they will honor your complain and tell you you have to pay shipping again for the next item:

example:

full catback exhaust:20 dollars
shipping 120

paypal dispute: equals 20 dollars back only!!! (not cool)

shipping prices are not refundable

simulation:
if you wish for us to send u another exhaust you must first send us the old one at your expense, (then you find out that shipping only cost 60.)

but you now have to pay the 120 for shipping of the new product, NOT WORTH it right? so u walk away, and they just took your money,

everytime u buy something on ebay buy it with free shipping that way if you have a dispute and win you receive the full refund (not lose any shipping money)

A month or three ago, the going rate was $100 for a 3" eBay catback. Catch is that shipping was another hundred bucks. Or you'll get another listing from the same seller with the exact same exhaust for $200 and free shipping. So either way, $200 is about what you'll pay for one of them. They look like a pretty good deal. When I have the time and money, I'll compare that price to an exhaust shop's quote and see where it leads. Probably to a Thermal R&D! LOL

Edit: Opened this thread a long time ago apparently and didn't see the previous post. He makes a very good point.

I got my exhaust off of ebay, cost me $110 bucks, but it had free shipping and i've been nothing but happy with it. It has a good deep tone even in the higher rpm ranges.

If you're interested in it look it up under Option Racing, i got the N/T 2.5" catback.

$99 shipped DSM Catback exhaust MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 95-99 GS RS : eBay Motors (item 200491734663 end time Jul-14-10 15:29:06 PDT)

My friend has this and fitment wasn't too bad, the muffler hangs a little low for my taste but a local shop would charge less than $20 to bend the muffler up.

He also bought this header for $59 shipped with the downpipe and gaskets. Fitment on this requires a slim fan because the O2 Sensor hits the stock rad fan motor housing.
Performance Header Eclipse Talon 1995-99 2.0 Non Turbo: eBay Motors (item 350372226790 end time Aug-05-10 08:07:28 PDT)

Then all you need is your cat or a test pipe also round $20 on ebay.

So you can buy cheap exhaust under $100 shipped on ebay.

I uploaded pics of the fitment of my $680 Thermal R&D and the $100 Ebay.

Not completely true ebay can give 100% back including shipping, ive got a full refund like 3 times.
Also sellers put low prices and high shipping for 2 reasons to try to catch inexperienced buyers and avoiding fees, fees are deducted from the price not the shipping.
and yes in your example in case you ordered an exhaust for a gst and you have a gsx its usually better to try to sell it yourself rather than returning it because in that case it was you mistake you'll have to pay the shipping and possible restocking fees, but if it wasn't your mistake and they sended you a different exhaust then they have to deal with it without costing you any extra money

I have a cheap ebay cat back that I bought barely used off of someone local for $50. I believe that it is the BBP brand that Option Racing sells. It is 2.5" all stainless steal with a 4.5" tip. Mine looks to be exactly the same as the one 97 GSX posted up, muffler hangs way to low for my tast also. Bought it as a quick fix when the back of my Apexi muffler rusted out on me.

The only exhaust system you're going to find cheaper than $100 shipped is going to be if you just go underneath your car and cut the exhaust off at the end of the downpipe. That costs $0 and you will see the same performance gain and probably have about the same sound as a <$100 catback. Like several people have already said, you can hardly build your own custom exhaust for any less than $80-$100 and even then you're going to have cheap steel thats going to rust immediately. Save up and get a quality exhaust system, you won't regret it.
