cheap datalogger

Im looking into getting a data logger but not sure what all i need. And were to get the software. Also im looking for the cheap way out . And it doesnt have 2 be for a palm, I have a laptop already but I do want somthing that logs knock. I think it may be doing a little knocking somtimes..

I know but i dont want to spend the money on pocketlogger software and then have to buy a pda. I would rather get freebie software and build my own. Just not sure what cables 2get and where to get them

UnfortunatlyI have 2 have 1 for a 2g obd2 port, and the cheapest i can find on ebay is $129.00 for everything. And i hope I can find it cheaper. IF not guess ill just spend the money.

I'm also into the market for getting a logger (I have a laptop already also). I've been looking at pocketlogger.com and the obdII cable + software package states halfway down the page that a pda is needed. So add the cost of a pda onto the $125 for the cable + software package.

Someone please correct me if you can just buy this cable+software package and use it with a laptop, cause if so, I'd grab one up in a heartbeat

Read this,

If you have an OBD-II vehicle (2g DSM) you may acquire an OBD-II logger cable from Multiplex Engineering. It will be around $85. You want the T16-003 Connector with destination address 0x25 (or just tell them your using Hal Landry software). If you wish to use this adapter for a Laptop, all you need is a null modem cable. There is NO DIY cable for a 2G that will work. I would suggest running the software with a Palm because the Laptop logger program is not well suited.

you need to get the OBD-2 converter ($85) but here it tell you were.

Does anybody know if the mmcd software will work on a 2g or if its just for the 1g. If so what are some freebie software for the obd2

Either way if the MMCD will work you still need to get the OBD-2 converter. so either way you are going to have to expend the money. if you cant afford it. sell the car and get 1G so you can DIY.....

MMCD doesn't have an application for 2gs. That's only for 1gs.
MMCD is great software though

I would suggest that you go with the pockelogger setup and pick up a cheap m100 Palm from ebay. I got mine for about $15 shipped.

Does the palm n stien software log knock signal. Bc that is something that i deffinetly want to make sure of. and also if i get a palm, hotsync cable and the obd2to serial cable with the palm n stien software will that not work or do i still need the adapter.

The only thing that will log knock on a 2g is DSMLink. So you are pretty much out of luck with anything else. But there are other ways to tell if you are knocking, but we can get into that after you get your logger and we can look at the logs.

True, you can tell by timing, the O2/WDB reading.. etc...

nope.
and i suggest you do it that way too.
just buy a $15 palm off ebay and get the $125 cable/sopftware from pocketlogger.com
