Has anyone seen or used those OBDII recorder things that autozone sells (they go for like $90 and $130 depending on the model)? I can't remember the exact name but its supposed to record engine data and let you play it back on a computer (sounds like a datalogger to me). I'm sure the information isn't involved but all I'm looking for is a way to see injector duty cycle without spending big bucks on a palm top/lap top and a real datalogger. Will those things work?

On a side note... I'm pretty sure I'm well over my question limit this month, so I'll try to make this the last one. :thumb:

i'm not sure if any of those offer injector duty cycle readings. i do have an OBD II scanner though.....it can't read IDC.

i looked at one of those while waiting in line at autozone one day, then i had a chance to read about it in popular mechanics as well (it's called 'carchip' if i'm not mistaken). from what i read, it logs the same parameters as the pocketlogger (which doesnt' include IDC on OBDII models) so it likely wouldn't work for that. honestly, i would spend the extra $$ and get a pocketlogger (or buy a cheap palm off ebay and snatch up one of the free logger softwares available) since you can not only log, but view the values in real-time.

the autozone thing would be great for spying on your kids when they take the car out, but it doesn't help much to log your O2 during a pull, then plug it into your computer only to find out it went crazy lean and you've likely already damaged your engine. but that's just my opinion *shrugs*

best to get a known solution such as the pocketlogger or similar. that device is intended for reducing your insurance buy reporting things such as speeds and such. they do other things as well, but I wouldn't waste my money on it to replace a tuning tool. IMHO.

So maybe I should give up on seeing duty cycles and just get a WB or EGT gauge to check for fuel issues.

What does a pocketlogger go for, is everything included, and where can I get one?

the car chip tells you when your on the gas when your braking and stuff of that sort. Data logger goes into the system alot more. You have to take the chip out of the car and put it on your computer to even read it.

Well I answered my own pocketlogger questions by going to their website (duh). Looks like I'm off to best buy for a Palm.

if you REALLY want to see duty cycles, go to radioshack. they have a number of voltmeters that can read frequency/duty cycle. then go to pep boys or something and get an injector pigtail and wire the voltmeter into that.

you won't be able to log anything, but it'll show you what you want to see.

or just make friends with someone at a chrysler dealership and have em hook up a real OBDII scanner FOR chrysler and have it hooked up to the MDS. god i love working for chrysler... it will pretty much record everything a palm datalogger will. thats how me and a guy i work with keep our talons running... without it, we would be lost... :talon:
