I hear chattering noise arround tranny or from the tranny
My new clutch and flywheel is like 500 miles on it now..
Just finish the break in
I think the noise started like 200 miles ago.
Its not ticking or rubbing belts
What could it be??
Using MTL gear oil
please help
thank you

Clutch chatter probably. I've never heard people say anything about it unless it was a puck clutch though. When does it do it? All the time? My clutch chatters, but its only on deceleration when my foot is off the gas and the car is still in gear.

If it's the street disk, you shouldn't hear any "chatter". As stated, a puck disk will "chatter".

Could not really tell you what it is...but if it's making strange noises I personally would have to take it (tranny) off and inspect the clutch. If you have a bolt back out on you or something managed to work its way loose, it will reek havoc on everything inside the bellhousing.

I had a dowel pin back out of an aluminum flywheel about 10 months after a clutch install between a 3-4 shift at about 6K and I can tell you from experience that you don't want parts flying around inside the bellhousing at speed. The aftermath really does look horrible, and it makes that unmistakable sound that when you hear it, you know it's going to be expensive to fix.

A little labor now can save you money and sleepless nights later.

Can't agree more. Find the fix before it fails, and takes other stuff with it.

Was it doing anything like this before you had the clutch installed?

Maybe they forgot something as simple as reinstalling the "keeper" clip for the throw-out bearing, who knows?

However, I would take it back, and trying to be civil, explain the problem and your belief that the install might not have been done correctly.

The symptoms you're having are NOT normal for a street disk clutch install, or any clutch install for that matter.

before, with stock clutch and stock flywheel, no chattering noise...
damn i gotta go now.. they better not charge anything if its their fault
thank you for reply man

OMG chattering started again F***!
I think it chatters while the gear in too...
Even quiet chattering can be problem??
How loud the chattering should be to say its chattering... Am i too sensitive
gosh:(

You'll know if its chattering. Mine's pretty loud, but then again we have different things going on. It shouldn't make a different sound when you put the clutch in though. I would just take it back to the shop again and hopefully they can hear it this time.

Can you describe this "chatter"?
I'm suspicious that your porblem might be your TOB, was it replaced?
yea TOB is replaced..
now sometimes chatters and sometimes not...
the chattering noise is quiet than lifter tickings..
even if I take to shop there is no gurantee that there will be chattering sound.. and they might laugh again..
Its kanna hard to notice the chattering noise unless you give super attention to the noises because i have lots of noise going on like lifter ticking and some chainsaw sound around timing belt.
the chattering noise is like something like matal scratching each other dont know how to describe exactly...

does is sound like a light scraping more or less? or is it more like a shudder? a shudder being like (. . . . . . . .) and scraping being more constant (.... .... ... .. .... .....) type sound? or is it completely constant?

i do know my trans has a scraping sound that is fairly interitent but goes away after its warmed up. its sounds like the tob is scraping on the pressure plate at idle while the clutch is engaged but the trans is out of gear.

its constant...
the sounds gets fast as i rev
in idle its like (. . . . . . . . . . .)
but if i rev (.......................)

hm..
Isn't this little chattering sound occurs maybe just because the new TOB that I replaced is the metal one?? and maybe with little shaking... or some scratching with balls in the bearing... thats why there is no chattering when the clutch is pressed.. because there will be no shaking by TOB is pushed when clutch is pressed..
there may be shaking with OEM plastic TOB but there is no chattering because of its plastic??

check out your front tranny bearing, a TOB will only groan when clutch pedal is on the floor, thats when the TOB rides against the pressure plate releasing the clutch from the flywheel, with the clutch pedal at normal height the TOB stops moving thus no noise! if its groaning at idle with car in neutral, i would check out the front tranny bearing! goodluck, let me know what you find!

I had the SAME exact problem. When I pressed the Clutch down, CHatter would go away. When I let go, I could hear it again. The sound would come and go. It eventually went away on its own after a while. I think the TOB that comes with the 2100 was the cause. If I were to do it again I would have used an OEM TOB.

Update*
I blew my tranny and everything in it. I dunno why yet. When I get some money and some free time, Ill post more info. I hope it wasn't because of that bearing!

Damn!!! From "go for it" to blown up in a day...whew.

To the original poster. If you hear strange noises...something is up. If you are unsure, tear it apart and have it checked. Part of owning these cars is plenty of maintenance, even if the previous owner didn't follow that rule and now you play "catchup".

Yours might not come apart, but when a tranny goes "BAM!!", it ain't nothin' nice.

This guy is right. You hear a noise, figure out where its coming from. Its russian roulette with these cars anyway.

Im going to shop with OEM TOB tomorrow.... to replace TOB...
Anybody recommand anything to look at when the tranny is out??
Thank you for replies guys~
Really apreciate it...
I wish this OEM TOB solve the problem..
