Im having trouble with the charging system on my car. I have replaced the alternator but i have not seen much if any of a change to my situation. Basically what happens is my voltage gauge reads about 11.8 but when my car is accelerating it reads between 13-14 volts. This has nothign to do with the rpms im pushing, only how hard the car is accelerating. It also seems that the cars voltage output changes when i hit bumps or other shaking movements. I have checked al lthe connections to the alternator and i found there is a wire broken near it , but if i ground it or move it around it does not affect the voltage situation. I have also found an unhooked wire above my intake manifold. Pics below

Where do these belong? and what can i check or do to remedy the voltage issue. Its to the point where if i drive the car it kills my battery because its not pushing enough voltage. Could my battery be the cause if its bad?

Thanks for the help.

My car had the same problem, the voltage regulator is to blame. I put in a rebuilt alternator from Mitsubishi and it went away. Eventually your new alternator won't charge. My old one did that for about 2 months, then it would only charge above 3000 RPMs, a month later only above 4k and 2 weeks later it wouldn't charge at all.

If you bought an autozone alternator, expect it to be crap. Bosch makes 100% new alternators but they are $400ish which is why I went with a rebuilt Mitsubishi which came with a 1 year warranty.

My car is doing this very same thing right now. Again! I've been through 4 alternators and 2 batteries in a year and half and every time one goes this happens. How is your battery? Is it fairly new or have you had it a while? If your voltage drops to far it can damage the battery. If this happens it will usually do damage to the alternator too. Maybe your battery is toast and it wiped out your new alternator.

Yes, a bad alternator can kill a battery. It made mine overcharge and had fluid leaking from it. I put in a new battery the same day I got my rebuilt Mitsubishi alternator.

Also make sure that you are running all heat shields and your power steering pump is not leaking on your alternator. Both of these will kill alternators.
