changing the harmonic balancer would you leave the driver side tire on?

1. When changing the harmonic balancer is there any reason why you would leave the driver side tire on?

2. Is there anything that could possible cause all 5 lugs to come loose including the wheel lock?

also this was done at a shop with a lift so just making sure.
 
1. No, changing the dampener with the wheel on would be difficult.

2. Not tightening them after the job was done.
 
I agree i had to do this one time cause the wheel lock was not to be found. So what if the wheel didn't make noise for a couple of days and then just started. Just not making sure everything was tight would cause this?

1. The shop is lying, unless they hire dwarfs.

2. Is there anything that could possible cause all 5 lugs to come loose including the wheel lock?

2. A shop that told you they did not remove the left front tire but actually did, then forgot to tighten the lugs.
 
The only logical explanation for all 5 lugnuts coming undone simultaneously is that they were never tightened. Sounds like they're trying to cover something up.

I hope you didn't find out they were loose the hard way.
 
I had 4 of 5 lug nuts come loose on a 94 Tbird I used to own. That was a bad deal. At 40 mph when you start to feel a very odd vibration and then your car slams to the ground, you see sparks and then your wheel rolling past you, you tend to be very very unhappy. My situation was caused by my ex and her "lover" at the time trying to cause me to die though. :(
 
1. You could do it, but it would be extremely difficult. No one in their "right mind" would do it this way. If someone did it at my shop...they would be looking for another job.

2. Not being tightened. It is recommended by tire shops (Discount tire) to re-torque the lugs after a certain amount of driving similar to what's recommended for the head fasteners. However, I've been driving for 27 years and I've never done this for my tires or any of the numerous head replacements done and never had any issues with either.

I say shop BS!
 
thank guys thats all i needed to know. just making sure that im not crazy.

Luckly didn't find out the hard way but now there are some sounds coming from the wheel that sound similar to the noise it made before. Any idea's on what that could be.
