Hey guys

Car is a 90 TSi AWD with big 16g turbo and turbo back exhaust. So I just got my Evo 8 injectors and Walbro 190 fuel pump in and am just waiting on my Apexi SAFC. (1 week away).

My question is if I put my fuel pump and injectors in now before my SAFC is going to hurt anything? Any idea how rich I'll be running.

The fuel pump won't, but the injectors will. Just wait until you have a way to compensate for the injectors.

The injectors wont technically hurt anything, just will cause you to run a bit rich. Also make sure to have something to data log so you can tune, if not you run the chance of tuning too lean and having some major issues.

I would follow RadDSM's advice though, just wait it out until you can get everything set.

I guess if you don't consider the risk of washing down the cylinder walls "hurting anything" then you are right.

It would certainly be a shame to see the excess fuel make it past the pistons to mix it's way into the oil, causing a spun rod bearing or other issues.

You make a good point on the logger which I didn't mention. OP- make sure you have a logger and a wbo2 before you put the injectors/safc in. You need a way to monitor what your engine is doing and your AFRs.

Not to hijack the thread but I have similar situation. Got a Walbro 255 already installed along with my SAFC II and AEM wideband. My wideband shows I'm already running rich and soon I will be installing my PTE 680 injectors.

Will I be good to go as far as being able to tune?

If you have a logger, then yes. You are probably over running your stock FPR, it would be a good idea to pick up an AFPR before going much further with that 255.

You do have to keep in mind that they're 540s (which are 10-15% bigger than stock if I recall), so the amount of fuel added by them isn't enough to damage anything on the short run (he said he was 1 week from getting the SAFC). If they were 660's (which are over 40% bigger) then I would wait for the SAFC and the logger to tune.

I maybe wrong, I don't know. It all depends on if people take risks, I've been known to and tend to pay for it a lot LOL.

I wouldn't run or tune anything without a wideband/logging device, your just going to be tuning in the dark and run into problems.

I believe the Evo injectors are 560cc but I have seen threads (on this site) saying they been flow tested and they flow like 580cc-590cc some even more. Those injectors will work perfectly with the SAFC, any bigger and you might need to use a different tuning device.

Rewire that pump for constant voltage and get a wideband and you are set depending on what your plans are for boost.

Anything up to around 720s will work well with an SAFC (even though I wouldn't suggest past 680s with an SAFC for safety reasons), anything bigger will need DSMLink or better.

I would rather wait a week than possibly damage my engine by washing down my cylinder walls. A week isn't a long wait
