Has anyone ever tried putting a chain or cable on the front motor mount to limit rotation? I am considering doing this as a cheap way of limiting torque reaction and wheelhop. It is an old V8 drag racers trick to be able to transfer torque and transfer twist to, in effect make a solid motor mount under hard acceleration transferring all available power to the chassis. Anyone have any concerns why this wouldn't work, or have experience with doing it? I would like to be able to keep the damping of the rubber mounts and stop rotation of the motor to eliminate wheelhop.

Putting a chain on your old V8 was easy. You just ran the chain to the frame. I dont think the front crossmember is strong enough for this and there really is no frame in the front of the car to speak of. If you want to keep the rubber mounts search on here about using window weld or similar to fill the mount and create a solid rubber mount for the front. I dont think chaining it is the answer. Hope this helps Travis

Just pick up the Prothane motor mounts, they're not that expensive.

The prothane kits are great. I have the set. The only problem is that the front motor mount is not a solid mount. It comes as 2 small inserts that fill the gap in the stock rubber. I think that sucks. Dont get me wrong I love my kit but I wish they made a full insert for the front mount like the rest. He only asked about the front mount that is why I suggested the filling the mount. Travis

I wonder if it would be possible to modify the front mount to use the insert from one of the other mounts? Maybe even weld on the entire hoop from an old rear mount or tranny mount in place of the front loop. I'm still finishing up some other projects before i get mine installed here soon so all 4 are out of the box, might have to take some measurements just to be curious.

Why would it not be strong enough? It would be taking the same strain as having prothane mounts, same motor, same mount points. It would be just limiting the motion. I know that the prothanes are pretty cheap, but I was wanting something that would completely eliminate wheelhop before I put the slicks on this year. If you get the chance to measure Kyle, I would be interested in knowing if you could put a full insert in the front. I just don't like the design of the front mount insert.

The front and rear mounts are the same diamiter. You can install the solid prothane insert that's meant for the rear in the front mount and it will fit perfectly. Buy another one to install in the rear if you want. I just left the rear and did the two sides and front.

I tried to do that with the rear and I didnt think it worked. Also my uncle had chains on his motor mounts on his Dodge dart. He broke a mount on a launch one time and only the chain kept the motor from flipping upside down.

That would be great if I had AWD, but I am trying to run some good times with FWD and slicks. I may just window weld the mount and make some mounts for a adjustable allthread type of limiter.

Do you have the stock fwd half shafts? when i had my fwd i converted to equal length half shafts from an awd, and it helped with wheel hop alot. Problem with the stock axle shafts is that one is short and the other is a mile long. You could probably find a used set with the midshaft cheap.
