So, my center differential went out (pic below) and pretty much caused some damage in my tranny. I wanna know if my shell is reliable for a rebuilt. It has a hole where my front differential goes, and a noticeable scratch. As well another scratch on the upper case where the Viscous Coupling goes.

Now, i will be replace my 3rd-5th gear with evo gears from jacks transmission. But before i purchase anything, i want to know if i could reuse my transmission.

But is that hole even weldable? i do have the missing piece. i know aluminum is really difficult to weld. Opinions please!!!

This is where the front differential sits, it hit and scraped it.

And its just missing a support piece? Either way, that part came off as well. (Upper case)

I"m sure it would be possible to patch that hole, just difficult since it's right next to the mating surface. I'd be worried about the heat warping it. But if anybody could do it, I'm sure Jack's could. One of my trans mount bolt holes was missing an entire side. After Jack was done with it:

Also, I'd suggest getting their HD gears instead of Evo gears. They're supposedly stronger, just unable to use the smoother syncro setup used by the Evo gears. A welded or 4-spider center diff from them would be a good investment too.

Ill give him a call tomorrow. Well i bought the car like this, and i thought it was welded diff. Ended up being a bad center diff and eventually broke ha. im only pushing 17 lbs on pump 91 and 22 on E85 its a FP Big t 28 So i have no idea how much HP that is really. ill update my mods soon.

Well, im not planning on pushing this car past 400. But i would like to get there. This is my DD so i would love the smoother syncro. But ill see. Welded diff, bad choice for DD and the 4 spyder upgrade would be nice, just pricey for me at the moment, especially with this project im going to tackle. Ive been looking into the LSD.

Welded center diff really isn't that bad, unless your a frequent shopper at your local super store. Otherwise it's unnoticeable and cheap insurance against exactly this.

it did feel like it was a welded diff when it was stuck. And i loved it! But, the turning did suck. But not sure if itll be better with a welded diff. I guess you can say im kinda scared i wont like it and im stuck with it. i do alot of short trips. Alot of stop and goes.

Other than parking lots and U-turns I felt zero difference between my open diff and welded diff. Like I said, during normal driving it's unnoticeable.
