hey guys, my CEL keeps coming on after the turbo swap...here's the deal

from a cold start (say early in the morning before i goto school) the car cranks but doesnt start. then after about 4 tries, it finally sputters to life idles bad n dies...5th crank it starts right up and idles perfect and everything seems okay... revs fine, behaves normally. now after i turn it back off and try it another time it cranks right up no problem.

now i drive like this for about 2 minutes, engine gets upto temps and my CEL comes on. there is no effect on the performance (slow as usual) of the car. My car cranks right up when its warm, and two minutes later the CEL comes on each time.

everytime its cold it doesnt wanna start until about the 5th or 6th try then behaves normally thereafter the CEL comes on.

I need a palm (i already have the cable) to read the CEL. if anyone close to me has got one and could help me pull the code that would be great. I am thinking its my o2 sensor because it was dented by the bits of turbine wheel that broke off in my previous turbo (pix of the carnage to come).

what do u guys think it may be?

Autozone scans CEL codes for free. Best bet would be to give that a shot and post what you find.

Regarding the slow to crank problem...Have you changed out your fuel pump lately? I know that torn/kinked o-rings (where the pump mates to the assembly) can result in conditions such as you described: hard to start/idles like crap when cold, after cranking a bit and building up fuel pressure, car runs fine.

If that isn't the problem, there are a couple other things to check. Check ToyBreaker's posts in the following thread: http://dsmtuner.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234136

I had a similar problem, and he pointed out some good problem areas to check.

Good luck, let us know what the code is when you get it scanned, I'm sure that would help things along well.

yeah autozone doesnt scan the OBD 1's...at least the ones over here

i'll have to get an anlog voltmeter or a buzzer n check it from the terminal

its not the fuel pump. this happened only after the turbo swap and i doubt that would give a CEL? I am guessing o2 sensor, MAF or Coolant temp sensor... i wish my palm worked!

okay i found the solution

and since i find that alot of these threads when i search just ask a question and the original person doesnt close the thread saying what was wrong, it really annoys me.

so here is my solution to what my problem was in case anyone does a search:

it was the coolant temperature sensor, wires were frayed, simply re-did the connector and it works like a charm, starts right up, no CEL so far.

thanks for the help guys :thumb:
