anyone ever relocate their deck to where the center vents are supposed to be? just in so many other cars the audio is higher up than ours and i like the feel, i think i might custom make one, .... any pics?

I used to have mine there and a tv in the huge whole where the cd player used to be. I changed it back because i like how how your fingertips are right at the cd player when you have your hand on the stick.

my friend who is a member on this site has done it... it looks really good he had a custom fiberglass piece made for him and painted to match the exterior and other interior parts. his member name is redeclipse7782. ill send him a message and see if he can post pics and any information he has.

i decided to go ahead and do it LOL

The fiberglassing is a lil rough, but i didnt use the orignal vents, i cut out a piece of carboard and used fiberglass matte to strengthen it, should have used a finer grit sandpaper and a lil more body filler and it would look better. This is my first time doing fiberglass to, so im happy with it.

I always wondered, how is that done?

on the faceplate and the unit there are 10 lil prongs that connect which allow the faceplate to work. you have to solder a wire from each prong to its coorisponding prong but the prongs are very close together so you have to make sure your skills are precise and not get any solder to cross over and touch the other prongs or it wont work. my step father is a electrical enginneer professor at the local community college he did the work for me cause my skills aint that dope yet. just dont put a cd in cause i did that and now it wont come out cause with the wires attached the head unit still thinks the face is on so it wont eject the cd and i didn;t want to restart the work so i left it in.

Just hook up a toggle switch on the wire that recognizes when the deck is open or closed. Doesnt make sense to have a cd player and only be able to listen to 1 cd.

well for starters when you do this you need to have a backup plan(ipod, cd changer etc) because my head unit is behind the 7 inch screen in the dash so its not logical to remove the screen everytime you want to put in a new cd or if you put the unit under the seat like ive seen some other folks do it.

i put in a Mp3 disk before i did all the soldering cause i knew it would be about a month before i got my cd changer and now its stuck its no big deal cause i wouldn;t change it there wasn;t anything there.(plus a clarion NICE should be going in where my vents are around new years so that will help with adding some MP3's to the system

the toggle switch once again i dont know how easy it is to connect 10-12 wires to one switch and keep everything operational and theres no need for it since i wont be accesing the unit. i do need however need to make a quick disconnect though cause it was a li tricky weaving the faceplate w its ribbon cable through the car and to its location with it being attached to the head unit.
