Castle plug/O-ring question

What do you guys recommend when installing castle plug, rtv or red thread sealer?

Also for the o-ring, do I install it dry or put a dab of oil around the o-ring?

I used neither RTV or threadlocker when I installed my castle plug/o-ring.

RTV isn't necessary because the o-ring is there to create a seal, just let the little guy do his job. Oil on it isn't necessary either because it doesn't need to be pressed in anywhere that could cause damage, it just sort of fits perfectly in its groove.

Threadlock on the castle plug will be up to you. I generally stay away because it isn't specified in the manual. It's supposed to be torqued to 17 lb.ft, which isn't extravagant, and I didn't have the special tool to accurately apply torque, so I tightened it by hitting it with a screwdriver/hammer.
