My car need a new CAS (I think). Kragen has them for 69.99.
I was curious what is it about our CAS that fails? is it repairable?
Do I need to re-time my care if I replace the CAS? is it not possible to line it up just how the old one was and have the car run normally?
I'm quite unfamiliar with the anatomy of a CAS could someone please give me a breakdown?
Should I get a 98 CAS or a 1G CAS and fab up a harness for it?
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I'm using a stock 7bolt, NO 6bolt swap!

Was it your CAM angle sensor or CRANK angle sensor. If it was the crank sensor, I'd be measuring your crank endplay right now. CAS failure in 2G's can possibly be an indicator of crankwalk.

Hoping someone can help me out on how to replace a CAS. My problem is getting worse, I cant drive 10minutes on the hwy without getting a CEL and then crazy stuttering.

I need a few things.
1. which CAS should I replace it with, will a 2g be fine? or is a 1g better.
2. how much should I expect to pay? I hear hundreds from the dealer and $79 from Kragen.
3. what is the procedure on replacement and is a timing light required?

Thank you.

From what Ive read on various forums is that the crank angle sensor and cam angle sensor are the same thing and people just use different names for them.

not quite, I think.
2ga's had crank angle sensors and 2gb's had cam angle sensors.
But the term "CAS" refers to both sensors.

For archive purposes, apparently I can just pop out my CAS and install a new one in the correct orientation and be just fine and dandy. Nothing hard about it. :thumb:

2g's run on both crank and cam angle, 1g's only run on cam angle. i just did the 6bolt swap and thats why u need a RRE harness :)
i'd replace wit a 2g one again, 2g's are very sensitive and thats what is the problem with the CEL when people do 6bolt swaps because of the accuracy of the sensors but i don't know if it would make a difference for a 7bolt still in there?

You can get a 93-94 "black-top" CAS that supposedly rids you of the CEL problems. But, I have DSMLink, so it doesn't matter to me. And you don't NEED the RRE harness, it's quite simple to wire it yourself.
