here is the situation.
i have a 95 Talon Tsi AWD with a 6 bolt. i cant find the plug to ground to adjust my timming. here's a pic of what my cam angle sensor looks like...

now my question is how do i adjust that so that it sits on there like it is supposed to? it clearly needs to be turned clockwise. how do i do that without massively screwing up my timming? help me out!!! thanks! :thumb:

so i should just unbolt it and flip it 180 degrees? then all the holes will line up? does it just pull straight out? would i have to swap plug wires if i did that?

thanks for the info. :thumb:

Just loosen the bolt and turn the CAS. As for the ground.I have a 95 also and am looking for the grounding plug to ground the ecu.I found a brown plug with one wire coming out of it.Its a black wire with a green stripe and im not sure if thats the one or not.I posted a thread with a pic about it last night but i have had zero replies. So I dont know.If someone knew what pin on the ecu grounds it or what color wire that would help.I heard it was a brown plug but it didnt look like the same one as the pic i posted.Anyway, If you find out please let me know.thanks

Ill see if I can find a pic, I know what youre talking about. Its at the back of the engine bay. There are two others next to it.

Thats exactly the plug i took a pic of. So thats the one? It has a black wire with a green stripe and i believe it connects to one of the middle harnesses on the ecu. The brown plug doesnt seem like it has a place to clip an alligator clip on. Do you remove that little white rubber round piece or splice in under the plug at the wire?Heres the thread with my pic. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134220

that brown plug is the one you're supposed to ground to adjust the timming, my car does not have it though.....

so when you say just loosen the bolt and turn it, do you mean with the car running or what?

I posted a thread about if you leave it running or not and no reply. So i did it with the car running.Set it in the center and start the car.Once its running i turned it very slowly until it wasnt surging anymore. If you go too far the other way the throttle goes too low.I havent used a timing light yet so i just found a happy medium where it ran okay and did other system checks. You do need a timing light .I just havent got around to that yet.Dont turn the CAS too far too fast and you should be okay.

i've got a logger, but when i hook it up it, my timming bounces between 0 and 12.

as you can see in the pic. i'm going to have to remove the CAS to slide the bolts that hold it on through the slots on the CAS. should i just turn it clockwise or should i flip it around 180 degrees and then switch my spark plug wires? i've read some stuff about that and i think that maybe thats what i need to do. i really need someones help on this one.

thanks! :thumb:

You can just prevent the engine from starting and time it while cranking, timing is supposed to be at 5 deg during cranking

44pirate- if you adjusted the cas without grounding it you could be waaay off. the ignition timing is some what controlled by the ecu. when you adjusted the cas the computer trys to 'correct' your adjustments, but it only can to a certain ammount. so you might have reached the ecu's limit. you need to ground the connector. my timing at idle was like 15*btdc and i retarded it to about 5 and then let the computer have at it and it went to about 7. needless to say milage, exhaust tone, engine, idle and everything seem to be quite a bit better :thumb:

-- use a timing light and ground the connector

i wouldnt go flipping it 180 degrees just yet, i was about to post that i knew a guy that has a cas just like that but then i realized it was you LOL take that bolt out and turn it clockwise so you can put the bolt back in the slot, it may not run like that and thats why its like that....what you SHOULD do is drive your happy ass down here this weekend and we will dick with it for a few hours if need be, i dont think it will take that long but who knows...let me know if you want to come down, otherwise youll have to get it running by ear but id hate to see that cuz i know that car is capable of low 13's at least, probably more but if its running like shit
peace

i dont think i can pull that bolt out....i tried and the "bolt" part goes into my valve cover and there's a nut on the end. does that make sense? the "bolt" is more like a stud that sticks out of the valve cover. i think maybe i'm going to print out a map that has directions to Holdrege.....do you guys have to work this weekend? i'm going down to kearney saturday for the DB drags, but that doesnt start till 6 pm. let me know what to bring down with me, ( timing light, tools, impact wrench, beer..... :thumb: )

You DO NOT need to ground the connector, like I said, you can time it while cranking. The ECU sets the adv to 5 deg during cranking, so adjust the CAS until the your at 5 deg.

BEER! LOL yeah you are right, it is a stud, its been awhile, so, sorry. Neither me or Kurt have to work on Saturday so if you can come down around 1 or 2 that would be cool, we are thinking about throwing some subs into the mirage for the DB drags too so we can all get drunk and then head up there LOL Its easy to get here, we can meet somewhere on the edge of town too, whatever works....so ill plan on you coming down then, let me know otherwise

since i started this thread, ishould probobly finish it...

my problem is "fixed", thanks to some get-O rigging on Brian and Kurt's part. i found that stupid brown plug to ground when adjusting the timing. now my car idles perfectly fine, we ended up having to turn the CAS counter clockwise even MORE. but everything works, it just doesn't look very pretty.

p.s.... DO NOT ever let devilsperm close to anything directly hooked up to your battery with some 4 gauge power wire.... :thumb: just kidding man!

thanks again for the help guys.

In other news today, a man only known as Devilsperm was seen leaving the seen of a horrifying incident involving a 1995 Eagle Talon tsi AWD with timing issues....
witnesses say the man was holding a battery cable when the blaze errupted.
