hey, im new to all this, whats the purpose of a carbon fiber hood?
my hood has some marks on it, and instead of getting it painted i was thinking about getting it oem carbon fiber hood, just got acouple questions

1- i heard you need to get hood pins if you get one cause they fly off, that true?, thats making me unsure on getting it cause the only cars i see with hood pins are muscle cars, or at least cars that have balls behind it, not one with at most with mods has 150hp, anyone think that would look kinda poserish?

2-i heard its sensitive, so if i go to a automatic car wash, you think it would be damage in any other way, or if one day it hails really bad?

3- i heard its like a 20-30lb weight difference than stock hoods, would that make much difference, in gas mileage, or speed? .. i dont think it would but idk much..

4- when you install them, it just goes right in where the stock one was, all the compoments are compatible, or do you have to buy other things for it to work.

5- any other carbon fiber parts you would recommend?

and yes i use the search bar, but didnt really find what i was looking for .. k thank you for your time..

Hood pins are recommended for most hoods because, some do not use the oem latch, in a car wash it is the same as the original, the weight difference is huge and with less weight from other places it will show in 1/4 mile times, and if the hood is from a brand name it should drop in.

It doesn't matter about the power or what kind of car. Its a safety precausion. The weight difference is AMAZING! You CAN, run a CF hood without pins, but you'll be taking a risk. I had a hood, a VIS Racing CF Hood, rip the hood latch hook out as I was only doing 40mph, driving into very fast winds, and the hood flew up and slammed my window! The $600 hood wasn't fully damaged, but didn't look that good afterwards. I still used it for the time I had it. But I installed Hood Pins. Never had a problem after.

There are all sorts of pins you can get, Locking, non locking, Metal or CF. I had CF Locking Hood Pins, so they looked quite nice, and when I'd lock each pin, the hood would be tightened down, I loved them.

All 95-99 Carbon Fiber Hoods are Compatible with your car. 90% of them are compatible with Turbo Models because of the hump.

Carbon Fiber is more flexible then Fiberglass, or metal. But cheap CF (the CF that isn't made to flex) will flex, with the problem of cracking. I've never had a car wash damage my Hoods.

Improved Fuel Econemy or speed... I never heard of that. But, lightening up the chassis helps with track times. Less weight for that 150hp motor to move around.

If you want to get a hood, I do Recommend hood pins if the vehicle is a daily driver. Well hell if you drive it at all. If its some sort of trailer queen that you only show off at car shows, then you don't need them. But Get yourself some nice looking CF Locking hood pins from Pep Boys, they are easy to install and I think they look great! Its just a safety precaution! It really would suck if a hood you buy, breaks open while on the freeway and you lose control or panic or something. I was lucky when mine broke, I was able to shove my head out the window and pull over... Plus it was in rush hour traphic so I was able to slow down easily since everyone was already.

Enjoy!

yeah i would definitely go with hood pins...i think most pins look like hell but these don't look too shabby

...also make sure you go with good cf, don't cheap out..big_d :talon::laser::dsm:

Those are the pins I got...

Also Good or cheap... it doesn't matter! I had a Seibon CF Hood that was much stronger then the VISRacing hood. The SeiBon on the freeway was stiff, the VIS hood mounced up and down, It sucked. And I had another VIS Racing hood, a different kind, that was in a totaled front end collision and was PERFECT on shape... its what all of you guys see in my pictures, I just painted it black. Just make sure you have good pins.

Please start using the search button, I know you said you "tried" but I am assuming you shut off the monitor after you pushed the search button, because I am amazed that you couldn't find a post about carbon fiber. There are upteen billion posts about carbon fiber and pics so start looking.
