Wow, this is pretty tight. I had never considered this idea. I wonder the difficulty of it all.

Make some interior panels, like the door panels I just want something smooth and I'm going to use a screw down handle of some sort.

I've never worked with CF before, but I've got to imagine it's extremely similar to working with fiberglass cloth, which isn't difficult at all.

Yeah I've watched some tutorials and it is pretty simple. I want to make some of my own parts and hopefully get good enough at it to hopefully sell some parts

I've done sum carbon fiber and its not alot harder than fiber glass. But you should do sum fiberglass first its much cheaper. It also takes alot to time to get it right and then u will still find little ways to make parts better looking and lighter.

I'm thinking on this method and going for the kit. May seem quite expensive, but if you make just a couple of parts you should get your money back

I looked into doing carbon fiber stuff, and I still plan on doing it at some point. But during some of my research, I did come across a few things I feel are important to point out:

If you ever machine, sand, or grind carbon fiber, wear at LEAST a filtered mask. The dust particles can do nasty things to your lungs. (The particles imbed themselves into your lungs and remain there. Also, it's a possible catylist for cancer)

Also, ALWAY use gloves when handling the resin, as it can absorb into your skin and cause liver(?) damage.

I believe the precautions are similar to that of fiberglass.

CF is less forgiving than fiberglass, mainly because you can see the cloth weave. If you goof up and get a wrinkle or sand down into it, it's glaringly obvious. Also, to get a good, stiff, strong piece you must use a pressure tech on the panel, be it vacuum or negative molds under weight. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. The mold is 95% of the work. Doing the CF layout and resin is the easiest part of the process.

Everyone has to start somewhere... the beginning is usually a good spot.

Ignore the negativity. In general, people are always quick to tell you that you can't do something, especially if they have no experience with it. Sure, you'll screw up some and blow money learning to fix your mistakes, but really, is that any different than paying for school? and in the long run, you'll know how to do it again, instead of having to pay someone else.

Wow this is very interesting. I would love to start playing with CF and make some small parts such as gauge pods and some other things. I'm sure there has to be people distributing kits and material in the US.

The main issue with it is expense and supply. It's not cheap, especially in small quantities, and certain types are heavily depended on by various defense contractors who can and have bought enough of it at a time to dry up supply for brief periods. If you're using the stuff to make a living, that can be a problem. Otherwise, no big deal other than cost.

...and oh what a cost... I'm actually buying up some rolls to make some products I believe people here will love and plan on selling as I make them, but at $2600 per roll, it adds up fast and doesn't go as far as you might think that much would. I don't/won't make laminated fiberglass, just 100% CF or Kevlar reinforced CF laminate. The real deal F1/areospace stuff that is lighter than you'd think and stronger than you would believe, not cosmetic pieces... although, I am making a bunch of things that aren't structural. Just a teaser... I'll show a little more in a few weeks, but the main point is, if you're going to use it you should do some practice with fiberglass quite a bit prior to trying it or you'll be upset when you screw up $100 worth of CF with a shifted wet layup (vacs are better!) that pooled on you or something similarly frustrating.
