Ok so i just drove my 97 gst down the street and got into boost a little, slowed down and turned. After i turned the car started making a vibrating noise and would not go past 1500 rpms and felt really laggy. Got it back and there was some oil on top of the valve cover. Any ideas wtf happened?
 
Have you done any diagnosis of your own yet? I would almost suspect that you may have blown one of your IC pipes off ... or you have one hell of a boost leak? This would make the car run like your explaining.

Try inspecting your piping. If you can't find anything there, inspect your throttle body and see if it's binding at all.
 
I have not done any diagnosis of my own. I am away at college and hae no access to tools or anything. Im just wondering how i would get oil all over the top of my valve cover from a boost leak. I forgot to mention that when this happened the CEL came on.
 
To add to the other poster's guesses (IC pipe blowing off or some other serious boost leak), you may want to get that code pulled and see if you have a misfire. Something like that happened to me once because one of my coils was corroded in the coil pack. It caused a random misfire a couple of times before I got it replaced. The other day the plug going to my MAS slipped out and caused my car to run like ass too, similar symptoms.
 
Yes, it could possibly be a crack in the valve cover. Check your PCV for proper functionality as well as your rubber oil fill cap seal to see if it has hardened. If your PCV quit on you, pressure will build within the valve cover causing oil to seep out of the oil fill cap and/or cracks in the cover.

Have you checked for boost leaks yet? Also, take your intake pipe off and inspect your turbine; see if it spins freely.
 
Check all your couplers from turbo to TB. Also, this happened to me once when I forgot to connect the MAS plug after tinkering with my intake pipe.

So i went out and investigated today and i found no major boost leaks, mas sensor was plugged in, no shaft play in the turbo, oil cap seal is fine. I dont know how to check the pcv valve though so if anyone wants to explain to me how that would be good. But i assume i just have a cracked valve cover right?
 
You say you found no major boost leaks ... Did you do the test or just look over everything? If you didn't do the test I highly recommend it, you'll be surprised. As far as the PCV, just take it out of the valve cover and give it a shake. If you can hear the ball on the inside then you should be fine. You can test it further by blowing into it ... blow into the threaded side and the air should go through fine, flip it around and blow through the other side, no/very little air should go through.
 
I talked to a guy before that said he had bad vibrations before and it was his balance shafts that broke and he couldnt rev it high..... i doubt that's your problem, and that wont explain the oil at the valve cover unless im wrong. Sounds weird though did you find out what was wrong yet?
 
No i think im going to have it towed to a shop. I started it up and it will idle at 100rpms and bounce around a little before stalling. If i rev it a little bit it wont make any boost and it wont rev past about 1500. Im so lost right now. Maybe my turbo went? It does have 118000 miles on it so i guess ill find out what happened soon. Thanks for all the help guys.
