car will fire up but rpms shoot up.

Ok so i FINALY took care of all the other little problems with my car and gues what it finally fired up. it will run a little bit but then the rpms shoot up and i kill it before it red lines and i blow a gasket. When it fires up we have to use starting fluid because the gas is so old it just kind of sputters. what do you guys think the problem could be?

I'm thinking stuck throttle cable or something along those lines. Thats just my two cents ...

I would take off the intake Piping, and see if the throttle plate thingy in the intake is getting stuck.
Or, have a friend turn on the car, and see if the cable is being pulled.
Umm, Put some fuel stabalizer in the tank.
Clean the injectors. And Check the plugs.
