just got my new belts installed so i went for a drive to recharge the battery, my buddy followed me down the road incase i lost charge...when i got back to the house he said that my car was shooting sparks and occasionally fire from the tailpipe...my exhaust is 3 inch all the way back with no cat...is this normal? or is somehting very wrong with my vehicle?

i think my alternator is on its way out...the last time i had it out something caused my belt to burn off the alternator pulley, leaving me stranded after about 3 mins of driving after alternator failure 12 miles from the house...we put the new belt on but i wanted to be sure that i wouldnt have a repeat of this problem while i was driving to recharge the battery...it was very strange, my old belt looked like it was in great shape except for a spot about 5 inches long that looked like it had been hit with a blow torch or something

so if at 60mph you go a mile a minute.. you must have been traveling 1mile every 15seconds to get 12miles away in 3 minutes meaning you were going 240mph OMG holy smokes...

haha just messin with ya

no, once the belt broke the car ran for apx. 3 minutes before the battery died and left me stranded 12 miles from the house

after reading my original post it does kinda sound liek that is what i meant, my bad

I knew that running rich woudl cause fire...but what could the sparks be from?? that is what i am concerned about

I had that same problem of fire coming from the exhaust plus the car running rich, I thought it was my flowmeter, but it ended up being a problem with my spark plugs, my mech calibrated them to "24" and since then I have no problems with fire and sparks and the car runs perfect.

Try that just in case and let me know how it goes :thumb:

Was this post ever resolved? my friend is having sparks come out of his exhaust at what i assume is WOT

You may have blown out a glass pack in the muffler or something, either that or you blew out the cat. That's about all I can think of for the sparks. Sometimes a lick of flame happens on high RPM gear changes, mostly due to a crappy tune.

You have to use the Search function to find and revive and old post. Good Job Sheldon7!!! So few use the search

Thank you! yeah my buddy just bought a 1G AWD (16g - 21lbs, straight piped, 320hp) and I was following him home after he bought it, when he got on it sparks came out. not a lot as if the exhaust was scraping the ground (there are not scrapes on his exhaust anyways) but a few floated out. Its running rich is what I assume... The local DSM shop says they've never heard of such a thing so of course DSMtuners was my next option :)
