car running like crap at boost

Ok so this is my first dsm, its a 1991 eclipse gsx and I traded my honda for somthing that seemed to be good and now im really regretting trading my honda for this POS. My problem with this car is that when your just drivin around town, the car is fine, it drives great. But when you hit the gas, even get it 50% throttle and the turbo kicks in, it acts like its going to blow up, it feels like its skipping,stalling,surging and stuttering and either starving for gas . Its got me so confused, cause ive read and researched about this and have found other people with the same problem but no solution. Ive replaced the plugs and wires, cleaned out the MAF and new filter. I feel like the car goes really lean when boost hits. My next things i can think of would be a bad FPR or Weak Pump. The guy i got his from told me he thinks its the waste gate getting stuck open. If anyone has any suggestions or have possible fixes PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
 
I would start by checking for any boost leaks. Then You could rewire your fuel pump, to ensure it is getting plenty of juice. Next You can check the waste gate getting stuck or the fpr. I would guess it is either a boost leak or the pump. Unplug your maf and see if it runs any better?
 
hey man find someone with a boost leak tester, fix the leaks and youll stop regretting the trade. not trying to be a dick or anything but i hope your not one of those honda guy that never worked on your honda and just beat the shit out of it cause your def going to have to work on your dsm. just an fyi man.
 
im pretty confident it is the waste gate. im a new dsm owner myself but am surrounded with friends that have dsms too. same exact problem. my car is stock with 147k on it. runs great till i go into boost. unless i feather the throttle and some how make it hold a small amount of boost it just freaks out. did several boost leak tests and nothing. i have a cracked mani and am having a FP race one shipped to my house soon and am going to pull the turbo off as well and look over it. ill post agian and let you know what i find.
 
i have a 93 tsi automatic and im having the same problems runs mint till i drive and hit boost ill let you know what i find im going to do boost leak checks and check out the whole set up vaccumm and everything i had a honda that did the same thing and it was becouse the base map was garbage and the shop was a bunch of idiots. but im suspecting a waistgate or bov issue with my dsm or computer.
 
Well you are on the right track. First thing you need to buy is a boost gauge so you can see where your vacuum is sitting as well.

Do a boost leak test and spray soapy water all over everything that see's vacuum or pressurized air. Next you can look at your wastegate. Look to see if the actuator rod is binding up anywhere and apply pressure (from air source) to the actuator nipple. The rod should move forward and then backwards after the air pressure is released. That will verify the actuator is fine. Lastly, take the clip off of the flapper post where the rod attaches to and pop the rod off. Can you move the flapper freely and not feel it bind up anywhere? If your answers are NO, YES, No then your wastegate is fine.

If you have no boost leaks (after you fix all of them) and you are still sluggish to hit boost then you may have a pre turbo exhaust leak I.E. cracked header, blown gasket etc.
