hey guys. Is there a how to for replacing shifter cables? Ive been told it may be the reason my gsx is popping out of first. I really hope its not something more serious like syncros. The gear doesnt grind when i put it in first, it just pops out. Thanks guys

Here's a tip:

1) Turn car off, pop the hood, manually shift the tranny into first from the transmission itself.
2) Clutch in, start car in gear, let clutch out.

If it doesn't pop out after doing this several times, you are probably O.K. with maybe fixing up the slop with new hard shifter bushings on the shifter and under the shifter bracket on the trans itself.

However, I know this problem all too well. This is always followed by 2nd gear or maybe 3rd gear popping out next. My advice: Do not let this progress or your tranny rebuild is going to require more than just new synchros, but also an entire new gearset.

I had this same problem with my 99 2g and i did not get to it in time for the rebuild. My case cracked and a lot of money was spent. But hey i got to pick out new gearing and love my new trans.
