Burbank,
hey everyone,
last night i was driving from lemont and i noticed the oil light turned on, so i look at my temp and the car was wayyyy overheated. in lemont there is no place to stop so i kept driving, as i put the car into neutral it died, after about 30 seconds of turning the key it came back to life. i drive as much as possible - got every green light- and then on a turn it died. I mean everything died, lost power steering and almost hit a car. so then while stalled billows of smoke shot out for about 2 minutes and the rest of the remaining oil dripped out from the bottom. Does anyone know what could have happened to my car? 2 nights before i drove it, there must have been a leak because after my car broke and i came home i noticed tons of oil on the driveway. do you think i could have fried my motor? does anyone have any suggesttions on wat coudl have happened? i wanted to ask you guys before i hauled it to a mechanic to have him tell me what went wrong, any info would help and would be greatly appreciated. thank you very much

-You should look under the car to narrow down where the oil is leaking from before asking such a general question.

Sounds like you blew your headgasket, driving it way in the hot zone was the stupidest thing you could have done, you should have parked it and called a tow truck. Now your gonna have to pull the head and hope the hea isnt warped and something else isnt severely damaged. Take it to the mechanic

thanks for the help guys, nevermind anymore..... there was a hole in the lower radiator hose, about 20 bucks yet i went to three stores and no one has it. i had to order it. i have no idea how the hose got a hole in it. LOL thanks anyways

I couldn't agree more. If you care about your car even 1% you would know to not drive it when something starts to go wrong. Seeing your temp gauge as high as it was, was a good indication to STOP DRIVING. Plus, on another note, when you saw a HUGE amount of oil on the driveway, why didn't you do something then, instead of waiting for your engine to blow?? Why do you think cars have gauges such as temp, oil, and gas. Because they are there to help you to prevent driving when somethings wrong.

People install boost gauges, A/F gauges, and all kinds of things to prevent severe engine damage.

Being able to read your basic engine gauges is something you need to know before you learn how to drive.

Sorry to bust your ass, but I just want you and everyone else who doesn't know that it is the worst possible thing you could do. SHUT YOUR CAR OFF.

I bet it did start as an upper radiator hose, thats why you overheated. But now, like mike1992 said, I bet your whole engine is blown up. What a wonderfull example to show you what could happen.

Well, I could repeat the same thing that everyone else said, but I won't because I'm sure hearing it 3 times is enough.

I had a coolant leak yesterday in the coolant feed line for the turbo. The line snapped so fine it looked like someone cut it. Thank god someone noticed the large puddle of coolant forming under my car after I started driving it. It's also a good thing that the intake manifold uses a bent rubber hose just like the coolant feed line, because I have an extra intake manifold with an extra hose ;).

When my brother hit an oil line in his car when driving, he never noticed that he hit it, and he began to drive it after parking it for a while. Well, needless to say, his oil drained out, and the car was hotter than hell, as they say. Right now, that car has been sitting dead for a year because it was warped due to the heat and it eventually lost compression (the car isn't gunna start on 20psi compression :D). So definitely have it checked out, because it may run in the beginning, and then eventually begin to lose power.

the oil is fine.. it was never the oil that was leaking, it was the damm fluid... the thing is that the lower hose was rubbing against a piece of metal... since i dont have the hose yet, i took it off, put ductape on it poured in water and drove it home fine.... it was about 2 blocks... and yes i wanted to stop.. is there wasnt 10 miles of forests around me and if there were shoulder lanes, i would have, plus where is there to stop driving from 135 and lagrange all that i saw was construction. thanks for the help guys. PS i have a boost gauge :p
