So I just finshed my stock engine rebuild. New bearings, pistons and rings. Got about 250 miles on the engine.

Went to a light to turn onto the highway. Got into some boost (15psi) and then I lost all power. Check engine came on, car wouldn't accelerate. As it coasted in gear, the tach was going crazy. I put in neutral. Engine instantly dies. Won't start with no signal to the tach.

Sounds ignition related. Anyone got any ideas.
 
Yeah. All my clearances with everything checked out within spec.

But that doesn't mean that it couldn't happen.

I would also think that the engine would still start back up after it died.
 
Cam angle sensor does some crazy stuff when they stop working.
It's also tricky to test because when they work nothing is wrong but when it stops working your stalled on the highway.
 
Ok guys. I need some help on where to start. Where does the tach signal come from to the dash cluster? I will check for spark and fuel today. I really don't think its something internally to the engine. I think its eletrical due to the fact the tach was bouncing all over the placr.
 
Mine personally wouldn't start back up for the life of me. I would get a buddy car and start swapping ignition parts if possible

The tach signal comes from the ECU.
You can test your CAM angle sensor with a good working one.
One thing I notice when they go bad is that when you try to start the car again once your stalled your car will back fire while you crank because your ECU doesn't know when to spark.

I'm gonna go with your power transistor. Forgot off the top of my head maybe someone else will Chime in but pretty sure the white wire going into controls your tachometer. Car will run like shit when it goes bad will most likely die on you then become almost impossible to start. It's located on the driver side next to the intake manifold and coil pack.
 
I got to mess around with the car yesterday. The plug on the#power transistor came off just enough not to make a connection. Plugged it up. The car fired right up.

Now the car only makes 5-6psi of boost. Ill figure this out today.
 
I've had both issues where my power transistor came loose, and then later had a bad CAS (6 bolt engine). My transistor was good, but the connector came off. My experiences with those have been that the orange weather seal inside the connector restricts the connector from fully seating in the transistor. My solution has been to pull out the seal and trim it enough to where the connector clips on properly, while still maintaining part of the seal. As for the CAS, or on 7 bolts, the cam sensor, like it's been mentioned, swap it with a known good one. I did this with 3 spares.

I wasn't so lucky my power transistor clip was somewhat broken on the wiring harness side. I actually zip tied the plug to the transistor so it can't come off. Not the right way but it worked for me.

As for only boosting 5 or 6 psi I would go over the motor and make sure everything is still connected properly. Something knocked your power transistor loose maybe something else was knocked loose too?

Have you done a proper boost leak test? You should also look for leaks on the manifold and hotside.

I've seen that done too, such as when I bought my third DSM. Good God the wire harness was a mess. It was so bad, I just went and bought another harness.

This would be the best start to finding out why you're only pushing 5-6psi. Also make sure you've plugged in everything you unplugged, and even check the ones you didn't.
