My motor has flat belts with ribs on the power steering pump and alternator. THere are no V belts on my motor and they are all stock pulleys.

Yeah now that I think of it the alternator and p/s does have a flat ribbed belt but it still is not a serpentine. When I said all v-belts I was picturing the 2.6 not 2.0. Still don't have a "serpentine belt"

What exactly do you guys have inspections for? We dont have anything like that here. I know some states test emissions or what not but what else is there and why would a belt cause you to fail?

For the second time, we DON'T have a serpentine belt. Serpenting belts are flat ribbed belts that get their name for the way the "snake" around the pullies. AFAIK, we have a type of v-belt or perhaps poly v-belt that doens't drive any pullies on the back side. There are 3 of them, if we had a serpentine belt, all the pullies would be lined up and caught by one belt.

The term "serpentine" used for ANY flat ribbed belt, regardless. V-belts get their name because they're not ribbed, they just taper on the bottom to form a "V". So yes, we DO have serpentine belts. 2 of them if you wanna get technical. They're also known as Poly-V, Multi-V, and Multi-ribbed belts.
If you don't believe me, go read what these guys and this site have to say about it.

This is from the second link you posted to prove others wrong.
• A serpentine belt is a single belt that wraps around the engine crankshaft pulley and the pulleys on each of the accessories. A serpentine belt is basically flat and about one inch wide.

A singe belt that wraps around the pully of each accessorie, flat, about 1 inch wide and as someone said it usuay has to have pullies on both sides to make enough contact with all the pullies.
If we had a serpentine belt we would have one that ran everything.

What are these inspections you guys have? What all do they check? It sounds like a major PITA.

maryland instpections are a pain. like that other guy said. no matter what, you have to fail the first time..LOL... thats how its been w/my past 3 cars.LOL.. :talon:

they check EVERYTHING!

omfg, you go in there right now and tell the guy that he is a retard. DSMs do not have serpantine belts. chevy's have serpantine belts... i know cause i have 3 of them. dsms have accessory belts, or v-belts, whatever you wanna call them... 3 of them to be exact. its not 1 belt connecting everything... that to me is what a serpantine belt is. me and a buddy changed mine the other day because they were squeaking (it was actually the crank shaft pully splitting apart, but thats another story) and we got it all back together and had my local mitsu dealer check the tension on them for free. it cost me about $50 in belts and all of my saturday, and a wrench lost in the engine bay, but it was worth it.

the belts on your car do not drive any fans of any sort. there is one for the alternator, one for the power steering pump, and one for the a/c... on my car at least. its kind of a pain in the ass to do it, but hey, if you got a dsm, might as well do the work yourself or you will pay more in labor then you actually pay for insurance and the car itself when all is said and done.
