Okay so I have 92 talon tsi. Just did a rebuild cause a flange was broke on the previous block down by the front engine mount to where the trans bolts on, another bolt was broke off in the block so the transmission wouldn't hold on... I rebuilt the motor with a N/A block. The motor runs great now but when I try and shift into any gears it won't go in any gears and you have to shove it to get it to go anywhere near in gear and all it does is grind and not go in, for every gear. Now before I did this it shifted fine. I also replaced the clutch I used a new stock clutch that I had laying around and used a pressure plate from a knock off stage 2 clutch. So I know the clutch can't be bad and the throw out bearing I replaced as well along with the slave cylinder. Any ideas what could be going on? The shift linkage doesn't look bent in any way... Any help??

im not really sore the only things have done to try and solve the problem are bleed the clutch and change the slave cylinder

Change master and slave with OEM, bleed, bleed some more, bleed again. Make sure tranny is tightly bolted on as well. Check bushings both under the shifter and at shifter linkage where it connects to tranny. Make sure clutch fork isn't bent and is in proper position. Did you resurface your flywheel and machine the recommended step in it?

No I didn't resurface the flywheel, I did go over it with some emery cloth but like I said te at shifted great before all this I just had a feeling I messed up with the shift linkage or maybe the linkage got bent somewhere along the lines? I'm not sure

Is there any way to tell if the master cylinder is bad?

I had the same problem but I would eventually put it into gear after jiggling the shifter and pumping the clutch. It ended up being my clutch disk; one of the springs had popped out and was getting stuck on the pressure plate. I was pretty dissapointed as it was my ACT 2100 with only 50k miles on it.

i dont even have a mile on this clutch i hope its nothing like this i would hate to have to pull the tranny after just putting it back in

Test drove a car a guy was having a shifting problem in. He had just replaced the trans and he didn't get the linkage back on correctly.

stupid question but are you sure put the clutch in correctly?

yes im sure i did... i replaced the clutch master sylinder and slave cylinder and did all kinds of adjustment to see if each one wpuld fix it and nope nothing... i did use a stock clutch disk with a different pressure plate and im thinking its the pressure plate that might be causing this because it drove fine with a stock clutch and plate on it before.

i have checked over the linkage 3 or 4 times and it looks correct, i dont have any problems getting into gear when the car is off.

I've helped a lot of people out with this problem. I had the same issues for awhile. What you need to do is. Rebleed it. But when you go to bleed it pump the pedal a couple times and bleed it how you normally would. Then what you want to do is barley open the cap on the master and back pressure bleed the clutch by manually pushing the clutch fork against the slave. Do this thoroughly and it should fix your problem

I had a hell of a time shifting and getting into gear after a clutch install. I put in an exedy clutch with an exedy master cylinder. I bought an OEM master and all my shifting problems disappeared. The price of aftermarket master cylinders are really pleasing but you definitely benefit from OEM, it is night and day difference. The problem is the throw in the aftermarkets are shorter than the OEM.

i will try this tonight, thanks.

turns out it was the pressure plate! switched back to a stock one and it shift greats, thanks for all the repelies!

Wich indicates you needed to resurface your flywheel with proper spec step for the pressure plate and disc you had on. Your stock flywheel is setup for your stock pressure plate and disc, glad you solved it tho. Cheers

Good to hear you got it fixed bro. I guess just a learning lesson would be not to mix and match things. I remember I had an aftermarket rps flywheel that I wanted to install on my act clutch kit and the mechanic refused to do it because he was worried of issues after. :nono: He made me fork out another bill for an act flywheel and I have had no issues since the install. Not sure if it made a difference but I guess it's one of those things that's better not to learn the hardway.
