Can't get cv axle in transfer case

I'm tryin to put a new cv axle in the differential but the axle won't go in all the way to make the seal. Any ideas? I tried hammering the little metal lip but it started to slide off so I can't do that.

You're putting a new axle in the transmission?

What metal lip are you hammering?

Make sure the axle is the correct axle. I just got one a month ago that was supposed to be correct but the sealing surface was too large in diameter. This wouldn't let the axle slide all the way into the transmission. Measure the two axles to compare.

Why would you try to hammer an axle into the t-case? Let's pretend you were talking about the transmission, an axle should only require enough force that you can apply with by putting the axle cup in the diff and wiggling it into place then a shove. If it's not that easy then inspect the circlip for damage. Check spline count and compare with the one that came out. (Diam. length of splines. ect)
