I can't find a aftermarket SMIC for sale anywhere! Do none of our vendors carry them? I guess we are doomed and have to use a tacky :tease: FMIC for now on!

You looking for an aftermarket one?

Yes sir. Preferably a Hahn or a Bullseye SMIC. I didn't hear to many good response about the Dejon. I'm also considering a Supra SMIC, but after seeing DSMunknown's walk through and seeing his results, I don't know. It looked very tacky and didn't seem to fit (No offense DSMunknown if you are reading). I just don't want big bulges popping out of my bumpers.

members, craigslist, ebay have tons of them.

Members = 0 (Parts Listing)

Craigslist= 0 (In St. Louis)

eBay = 0

I have sent an email to Hahns and asked, so only time will tell.

*UPDATE*
Hahns said, "Sorry no we no longer offer those. "
Their sales rep. have bad grammar.

Check E-bay that's where i scored my Hahn Racecraft SMIC for $200.00 shipped & good luck.

Why not go with a second-hand Supra SMIC? I picked mine up for 50$ in fair condition with pretty light miles. Craigslist is your friend.

Edit: OP said no supra SMIC and I'm a tard for missing it, LOL.

This might be thinking kinda abstract an may not help you in anyway. On ebay they sell subaru top mount intercoolers for cheap that are bigger then stock side mounts. If i were creative (and i am) i would get one for a 100 bucks or what ever they run and i would have the two small holes welded shut and put one 2.5 in sleeve in place and make my own side mount for less then the cost of just about any after market side mount. It will work i have one in the garage, people play around with welding up end tanks on intercoolers all the time to there liking. Like i said might be too much work to you but i like fabing stuff up and being cheap.

He's afraid of fitment issues, which are real, but can be minimized with careful planning.

I searched for months before I found a good SMIC. I passed up on a few supras for no real reason, just did, and then landed on my Dejon superbig SMIC. It fits quite well and I've never felt my UICP get warm, nor is the core after a few pulls. Not exactly a scientific method but without an IAT setup it'll do for my needs.

I never heard of a Dejon superbig SMIC LOL. Do you have any pics?

Also you have the setup I am currently looking into. What size injectors and how much boost are you running? HP and torque?

You can get a FMIC anodized black, so its not so noticeable. If you are worried about people seeing a FMIC.

Probably because SMIC's are junk :tease:

With the amount of budget FMIC's now available, I'm sure the SMIC market has really dropped. While they do keep that stock look, even the best designed SMIC will still be limited in performance, which is why most just opt for the FMIC. If you don't plan to make over 300awhp, then a SMIC should do the trick but after that, things are just much easier with a FMIC.

I ran a HRC SMIC years ago, with pump 94 it was limited to about 17-18psi on my evoIII with a stockish timing curve (maybe pulled a deg or two mid range). I ran it for one summer then stepped up to a FMIC & never looked back :sneaky:

OP, don't know who you heard bad things about the Dejon smic from, because mine kicks ass. It's very well made (I ran over mine last year LOL and it's really no worse for the wear), cools well, and can be had for pretty cheap if you wait long enough. I paid $50 for mine. As with any smic, properly sized and sealed ducting is going to be critical to maximize the cooling effectiveness. I'm running over 25 very warm psi through mine out of an Evo316g, and I don't have any issues with it staying cool. I'm shooting for 400whp through it, and I don't think there will be an issue doing it (I'm on e85 btw).

I've seen a sleeper setup using a PWR Liquid to Air intercooler in the engine bay. It required a battery and fuse box relocation but it showed nothing from outside.

I have the HRC SMIC. It has its pros and cons.

Pros:

1) Very well constructed and perfect fitment

2) Very low pressure drop. I tested boost pressure pre and post IC using Blitz digital peak/hold gauges and it was always less than 1psi.

Cons:

1) Kind of heavy for it's size but I guess that's expected with a bar and plate IC.

2) As Daren mentioned, it can heat soak and simply doesn't have the surface area to cool as well as a good FMIC. I have felt it after a hard pull (21psi on Evo3 16G) on a warm day and it was hot to the touch. I have an infrared pyrometer now so I should repeat that with actual numbers.

Having said that, it seems to work quite well the majority of the time and overall I am happy with it. I am only using the stock ducting which doesn't work well with this IC so I should have better results when I take care of that. I also plan to add a second small WI nozzle pre-IC.

I have an Alamo SMIC and I love it. Its almost twice as thick as the OEM unit. Unfortunately they don't make them for the 2G. Bottom line is they're out there for your vehicle you just have to keep looking. I bought mine from a member on this site.

Hate my stock smic, forget sleeer for me, my fmic will be there i dont plan on sneakig up on anyone expecting to blow them away anyway. Besides my set up will look a lot cleaner with that damn uicp sitting there, this winter is my ulimate clean engine bay. too much work to find a smic large enough or to make it fit.

I understand why people say go to the FMIC and forget about the SMIC (more beneficial performance wise). But if I get a FMIC I will have to cut away at my bumper. I don't like how a FMIC looks on a 2ga Talon plus I think they are played out because everyone who owns a DSM has one. I'll have to check out ZERODSM's post, thanks JFZERO ECLIPSE.
