Put in new pistons, conrods, and rings...did everything right...new headgasket...good compression...new 6es plugs, new wires, new coil pack new transistor, timing was set perfect, ecu replaced with new one...car is getting gas...getting spark...have no idea why it won't start..is it possible that maybe the timing is off now? belt was really tight when set...ill check but it cranks and wants to start...almost there but it just doesnt...blows out exhaust and everything but doesnt start.

Check to see if the timing mark on the balancer matches the piston at top dead center, really can't say with out hearing the car try to start, but start there and then see if maybe your plug wires are on wrong(hey it has happened to me more than once):thumb:

If someone can give me something to try...i've run out of ideas...its basically a stocker with a small 16g, 2g MAS, 2g Manifold, new pistons, new rings, rods, bearings, awesome compression...every cylinder sparks...fuel seems to flood some what fast but maybe not...i have no idea...im at a complete loss for ideas.

it cranks great...sounds like dry cranking then it seems to ignite and almost start. as u crank it, the best description is, it almost starts..it will just sputter a bunch of times and almost start that's all i can say. i know its not bad gas because i lit each cylinder on fire to get rid of the flooded cylinders. if you saw my eyebrows you would know the gas is good...what next..!?

hey Puller,

i have the EXACT same problem with my car. it's a 95 talon Tsi Awd with a 1G engine in it and it's been sitting in my driveway for 2 months now and still wont start. i did the same as you, replaced coil packs, transistor unit, plugs.....still wont start but it wants to soooo bad. sooo close it's damn irritating!!!! :barf: have you fixed yours yet? i've checked everything and dont have a clue what it could be. let me know please!!!i've posted like 3 or 4 posts on here for help and nothing. thanks man!:thumb:

i did like i said above, changed nothing on the setup, towed it and pop started it in 1st gear...now it starts everytime but i just have to adjust ignition timing. it's worth a shot...it didn't then it did...beats the hell outta me. try it, my only suggestion.

when i first bought my car i washed the engine.... BAD MISTAKE~ it fried the camshaft senor and the car would not start. it would come close to starting and sometimes it would start for about 2 secs then die agian. It was getting fuel, spark, air and everything els. the dealer quoted me $600 to replace that little peice of shit, lucky we found one in a junk yard. But after it was replaced the car started up fine and has never had the problum sence. hope that helps

Holy Crap people!!!!!!!!

i went outside, put a little oil in each cylinder, screwed in my spark plugs, hooked up my wires and KABOOM!!!! my car started with a damn bang.....i dont know why but it hasn't started for 2 months!!! i dont think i did anything out of the ordinary...just thought i would let you know.
thanks for your help! :thumb:

I think I just jumped in the sinking ship you guys were in, I rebuilt my 90 tsi , bearings, rings, head gasket, timing belt, new cams, new head, it's perfectly in time, gets good compression, fires a couple times but only if I let it sit for a few mins. almost as if it was flooded. Fires a couple of times but doesn't start. , I'm desperate, i've stuck way too much money and done too much work for this beautiful machine to not run. please help

check your ecu...then check spark...have somone crank it and pull each plugwire out 1 by one and hold the tip of the boot near the valve cover so you can see it arc...only do it enough to see it happen...once u've checked each cylinder you know you've got spark...if not try taking off your CAS turn it 180 and see if you hear fuel coming...it's obvious if you do...move to the enxt thing...ecu...takes 10 mins to get it out and look inside...it shouldn't have a scent...if it does...time for a new one...dont even mess with it. if it's fine... i say take it down the road and pop start it...worked for mine now it starts everytime.

make sure it's getting fuel, but not too much fuel! especially if you have bigger than stock injectors. i second what puller said, push start that sucker and see what happens!

well I've been wanting to try to pop start it since I read about it working for you, I know for sure it's getting fuel becuase I can feel the fuel run through the line everytime it seends it, and I know it's getting spark, it seems as if the timing is just a noche off, but I thought that the CAS was adjustable for that reason, to compensate. I do have bigger aftermarket cams, but the place I bought them from didn't say anything about compensating for the size when timing it, I hope that ain't it, because if it is I need adj. cam gears, i'm sick and tired of pulling that tensioner everytime. I can't imagine the ecu being bad since that was fine before the motor went bad, but by the luck and problems I've had with this rebuild I won't hesistate to check it. Thanks

Your answer might be right there.. read it.. Cam Sensor.. check it. I've had the problem too.. after thinking and getting ides i changed the cas and it fired up on the first try.
