can i put a aftermarket turbo on my eclipse gst with out buildin it????

i am gana get a aftermarket turbo from my friend to put it on my 97 eclipse gst but i just wanted to know if i was to build my engine so i wont blow it???

Which turbo? Do you have any supporting mods at all?

You could throw in a 16g on low boost and be fine. You could also just throw on a 14b and turn it up a little. What's your definition of "Building the engine?"

You'll need to think about electronics as well as mechanics if you plan on running higher boost/higher flowing turbo. Fuel pump, injectors, tuning, intercooler etc. Give us some more info on your car/what turbo your thinking of and we can help you out more.

You dont need a built motor. But before you slap on a bigger turbo, make sure you do all your maintenance stuff first. A good turbo upgrade for your stock application is a 14b/16g. Anything bigger will be overkill on stock fuel system. What kind of turbo are you getting?

What you need to do is read before posting, and before modding your car. Read basically every day for at least a week minimum, and then post up if you still have questions.


If you know what you're doing, you can get 500+ hp with the stock engine, but if you don't know what you're doing you can wreck your engine at stock (or less) hp.

A bigger turbo alone won't give you better performance. You need supporting mods.

I agree with the first few posts. I have been running evo 3 16g on 14lbs since I got it and except for the maintenace aspects and other upgrades my motor is fine. I also have a buddy with ported 14b running 20psi on stock internals and he beats on his car and has yet to have a problem. I am a firm believer that dsms have a strong block.
