I was installing my new alternator the other day and noticed a "hose attachment tube" protruding from around the oil filter. Should this be hooked up to anything, it appears that it should. Thanks for any help.

that is the water inlet for the water oil cooler.. are you running an external oil cooler?

edit: darn mod's cant you let anyone else answer the newbe questions LOL

That's crazy, nothing leaks from it....just checked my coolant yesterday, it's topped off. But I'll jack it up and investigate a little further. Thanks you guys.

Edit: I bought it like this, so I'm assuming the previous owner blocked off the other end. Is it necessary to have a cooler, also where abouts on the other side of the block would it attach, will it be obvious if I get under it?

If he had an external cooler, the oil filter housing would be completely different and wouldn't have provisions for water cooling.

My bad, that's the one that connects to the water pipe nipple. See this picture (2g 7 bolt block though).

well you can also use an oil filter sandwich adapter to run and oil cooler and his picture doesnt show a clear view.

I just went out to the car and inspected further. The large coolant line doesn't have the protruding little line coming down, could this be just a 7-bolt deal? I have a 6-bolt swap.

whoever did the sway was too lazy too get the correct water pipe to use the water cooled filter housing.. you have nothing to worrie about when it comes to leaks or anything like that..

im not sure of the normal temps where you live.. but as long as its mild im sure you dont need an oil cooler but it never hurts to have one.. i live in cali and when i did my 6 bolt swap i went with an external oil cooler setup but its gets pretty hot in the summer out here
