Okay so first off allow me to say Hello, and tell you a bit about myself and my situation.
About 2 months ago i bought a 95 Gst. It's my first "Sports car" before this i was driving a ford escape. So im really new to the whole DSM world.
I was driving i herd a slight knocking sound ( i had two engines on my escape blow so I'm vary familiar of that sound). i wasn't far from home, so i turned around and the knocking went away but the car kept turning off, so i just kept popping the clutch and starting it. but i got to a red light and once again the car turned off., this time the car didn't turn back on.
My friend and i pushed it to the nearest parking lot and i noticed that the line from my external oil cooler came off and it dumped all the oil out from my car. i walked to a supermarket bought new oil, put the line back on and put the new oil in. but the car still wasn't starting.
When i crack it the cams don't turn. and after staring at the engine for about half an hour i seen a broken belt, but couldn't see were it came from. it started to get dark so i busted the flash light out and i seen that under the motor mount there was a gear with no belt on it.
So i went to the auto store and got the book for 95-99 eclipse's and found out that it was the belt for my silent shaft.
So i was reading up on this problem and people were saying that the car can still run without this, it's just a bit shaky.
So i guess my questions are.....Why isn't my car starting? Why aren't my cams cracking? Could it be because i'm missing that belt ? Is it possible that i snapped both my cams ??? What should i do?

Oh one more note. when i cracked it to show my father my problem it back fired.

thanks for reading. ANY feedback would be great. Thanks.

If your balance shaft belt broke, it probably got caught in the timing belt. It is a common cause of timing belt failures in these cars. Running out of oil is going to cause bigger problems than the bent valves the broken timing belt has probably caused.

The balance shaft may have seized due to a lack of oil. That would then snap the belt. Then the snapped belt fell into the main timing belt. That may have then snapped the main timing belt.

From the sounds of it, you're probably looking at a total engine rebuild.

You sir, are going to be needing a new longblock. From the sounds of it, your car either crankwalked, the balance shaft seized and snapped everything, or your timing belt shredded at the crank pulley and you bent some valves. As above poster stated, you are looking at a complete rebuild.

Well, my main timing belt is fine. its just the one belt that broke.
Thank you so much for the responds! :D

Your cams are directly connected to your crank. When you turn the engine over, the cams should rotate. What you LIKELY did is seize the oil-pump by failing to get out and inspect your vehicle and allowing it to run itself dry, the balance shaft belt snapped as it is also connected to the crank. When it snapped it hung in the timing belt, the timing belt likely lost the teeth around the crank. This is a common issue associated with timing belt failure. The engine will sound as if it's turning over, but the timing belt will not move, thus the cams will not move.

Doing this, the CAMS can no longer move in the correct sync with the pistons. That 'knocking' you heard was both your oil pump seizing and your pistons slapping the valves. You will be tearing your engine apart and rebuilding it... or(likely) selling it off out of frustration.

My advice is to start researching on how to rebuild an engine.

but if its not cranking then something is wrong... either it seized up, or it stripped a couple of the teeth on the belt making the crank turn but not your cams...

So it seems like the most popular answer is that i will need a new engine :( Thanks for all the advice, i'll keep this thread updated on the conditions of the car.

It isn't that it's 'popular', it's that it's the most likely case scenario. Very rarely do skipped timing belt occurrences end with no valve work needed. In this instance you so happened to not only jump time, but starve your engine of oil.

Good luck with the repair and let us know how it progresses.
