Cams and timing question

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 1990 laser rs turbo that i found hidding in a back yard. the car is in great shape, but all the vacuum lines and some of the electrical connections were undid
I bought a manual but and was checking the timing because the guy had pulled the engine when he stripped the timing belt tensioner bolt. He took it to a machine shop and they repaired the stripped threads. When he put it back together he didn't have the exhaust cam right he was 180 degrees off. Well he tried to start the car but it wouldn't start. I bought it and have went through and gotten all the timing marks lined up and got the cams set up the way it says and shows in the manual. my questing is before i start putting thngs back together again. What are the chances the with the exhaust cam off 180 that he bent some or all of the valves i'm planing to do a compresion check on it tomarrow but i don't want to get everything back together and find bent valves. I figure it would be easier to pull the head with most of the stuff off already. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I pulled cams and and plugs and just blew into plug holes, But my car had broke belt when I got it. I had 8 bent vales Cost about 450$ for vale job. Good luck

I just put air to the cyliders and didn't have any air bypassing the valves as for now everything looks good.

If he was just turning it over a few times, you maybe okay. if it was straight up 180 out, that would just mean that the intake and exhaust valves were opening at the same time for each cylinder. So you would have no compression, but not valve to piston impact. If you are super concerned about it, you'll have to pull the head. If you got it all set up and ready to rock, start it up. Did you get the vacuum hose situation figured out?

Ryan wasn't trying to bump the post just trying to get some answers. This is the first turbo car i,ve own so i have alot of questons and alot of reading to do. I'm used to the old v-8s lot less to work on. I.m sorry if it bent you the wrong way. I did put air to the cyliders and had no air coming out the intake or the exhaust so from what I learned the valves are ok. I am going to start on vacuum lines in the morning I would like to go back to the facture set up for vaccum line ,but i found a lot of posts on eliminating vacuum lines not sure which route to go. I do have a starter issue the guy a bought the car from put in a new starter, but i think he goofed on the wires. I went to hit the key and the car cranked over but when i released the key the starter kept cranking had to unhook the battery to get it to stop. one i get these fixed i will be ready to add some fuel and give its first firing in two years. I'm hoping the it will go well and she will fire up tomarrow. I will post the out come.
