i have cold air intake, header, downpipe, high flow cat, 2.5" piping, dual muffler, short shifter on the way. i just want some input on whether i should get some adjustable cam gears or the modern performance throttle body next? i dont really want to just bore out my throttle body so ### dont say that. ive heard that cams have been one of the best mods some people have done so far (n/t). but also i would have to get them installed and adjusted proffessionally. $$$. on the other hand, i've got everything else opened up but it is still restricted to stock intake of air to the engine right from the start throttle body. what do you think?

With cam gears, you will need to some dyno time to get obtain the most gain out of them. If i am not mistaken modern performance tb is 60mm correct? I find that slightly overdoing it for an NA. I would say screw it and get an AFX Underdrive Pulley.

I don't know where you got that people gained mad hp from cams....lots of high power 420a's still run stock cams ;) There are definitely many other ways to go before you would need to tweek the power out from cams or gears :thumb:

If you don't have the AF/X udp yet, then that my friend is your next mod :rocks:

The reason why people with high power 420a's don't have cams and run with the stock cams is because the high hp 420a's you're referring to have turbo's on them. There currently is not a real good set of cams that help with the characteristics of having a turbo, that's why they stick with the stockers. If staying n/a, cams are the biggest power adder there is. If there were cams more like the 272's for 4g63's, the 420at guys would have them.

Ohh...so you're saying for naturally aspirated guys, the cams are the best mod they can get. Well if they're far enough down the road to need cams, then they must be on the all-motor band wagon...and they should know better than to expect crazy amounts of power :p

The underdrive pulley is def great bang for the buck like others have mentioned above. As far as upgrading your throttle body, i wouldnt go to 60mm unless you are going turbo at the same time. You cant benefit from a TB that large unless you have forced induction. However, if you do want to upgrade it, why dont you just bore out your stock TB to 55mm, i did that on mine as was pretty pleased with it, cheap and simple upgrade.

Honestly man, if you also want to add a little more pep, to your NT.

Remove the cat and replace with a test pipe or high flow cat.

And get rid of your "dual" muffler, its only going to slow you down.

And any cat back piping you do get make sure its mandrel bent.

As for Cams. Look for a pair of crower stage 2's, (pricey) but that will get r done. Unless you have a goal of going turbo someday with your NT, then I wouldn't waste your money on cams you'd probably have to take out anyways

eh, those mods in my opinion arent really worth it for the most part.

cam gears only bring slight benifits after tuning.
TB only brings benifits if the engine needs more air then the stock TB can flow (i dont know 420a numbers so i cant say for sure if it would help or not)
underdrive pulleys add a slight benifit.

all of those things may make you see a slight noticable gain but nothing spectacular.

From "Yeah I know....Another UDP Pulley Thread":

"So, I helped him install the pulley yesterday (AF/X of course, ordered it from Howell Automotive). Install was a bi*** even with the special pulley tool that I used. It just seemed like the pulley didn't want to come off. After install he went for a test drive and told me that he instantly felt the difference. He was very happy he spent the $152 and said that it's the best $152 he spent on his car so far. Thanks guys for all the info and help."

Your choice.

...don't know about your laser, but for our 420a's...the AF/X lightweight 30% underdrive crank pulley is t3h rox0rz :rocks: +1 for recent purchase and enjoyment by another member

Between 50 and 100. Of course they will recommend you replace your drivebelts in the process since they will be removed anyways. Which in turn will raise the price a bit more.

However, I say you man up and do it yourself. It's not that hard.
