cam gear alignment ..

I just finished a timing belt on a 2g n/t and after thinking about it I'm confused on how to properly line the gears up. I know the grooves have to be all in a line, but you could have a gear flipped 180 degrees and the grooves would still line up. I know on my gsx the grooves have to line up and there's also a little pin type deal that has to point up. The n/t doesn't have any pin or anything so how do you know which side is up and which side is down? The markings on the gears don't show it either ... at first I assumed the markings in the gears should go so they would be read normally when looking at the gear and not upside down ... but then I flipped the intkae gear 180 degrees and left the exhaust gear alone. Basically the intake gear is upside down ( the writing on the gear ) and the exhaust gear is right side up. Did anyone else notice this when they did their belt? The manual also never shows which side is up and which is down ... it also just says to line up the grooves.

if your using the stock cam gears. there is a 609 on the stock gears. they should face each other. meaning the intake should face 3 o'clock and the exhaust should face 9 o'clock.
