I have a autometer EGT gauge w/ probe. the gauge itself doesn't work. I intalled the probe in the #1 runner and i wired the electric part. The probe works i hooked it up to a temperature reader, the electricity of the gauge works, knowing this by using a test light. So I am buying a Greddy EGT used w/out probe. will my autometer probe work? My probe has 2 ring terminals which connect to the gauge, does anyone have a picture of the back of a Greddy gauge?

no, the greddys either:
A) PHW gagues uses a connector to interface into the mempry control module unit.
B) the non PHW gagues the same connector interfaces directly to the back of the gauge itself.

So neither version of the greddy gauge uses the ring terminal method as the autometers do. Just curious, how are you going to buy just a gauge only? The greddys also have a connetor for the power so you would need the power harness as well. Just buy a new gauge of your choice and use the probe that comes with it. You will be able to use the same hole as long it is the same common thread of 1/8"NPT which most gauges use

The Greedy EGT probe used a 2 pin male connector with a 2 pin female connector that inserts into the gauge assembly. The AutoMeter uses 2 ring terminal connectors to attach to the gauge. I would say there is a difference in the resistance values of the 2 EGT probes so probably wouldn't work if you tried to interchange the 2. :talon:

they are all K type probes so they are interchangable, the only problem is finding the correct connectors and splicing the leads. When splicing temp probes you need to keep in mind that the splice needs to use the same material. In a K type probe, nickel- chromium and nickel- aluminum are used for the 2 leads. Now if you use a different material/ reverse poliatiry at the splices (also called a junciton) the splice can also sense tempature to some extent and will alter its readings, and in some cases termendioulsy. So back to the original post, it would just be easier to buy a new gauge of your choise and re-run the EGT probe. Like mentioned earlier it is "plug and play" since the common manufatures all use the common 1/8" NPT.

Splices can also be made by twisting or clamping the like wires in direct contact with each other. Soldering is not recommended. I'm not ever sure if solder would take to the materials.

sorry Wret I should have been more specific, I dont think solder would take as well, I was thinking more along the lines of the style connector that TRE includes with their probe assy.
