Busted Studs..

I'll post pics tomorrow but i need to replace my cracked exhaust manifold but left 3 studs are busted and the others a rustted, and probably will brake if i try and remove them. Is their anyway to remove all of the studs without having to buy a new head?

Absolutely. You have several options. 1 If there's anything left protruding from the head I would ask a machine shop to take a look at it. They may be able to use a stud remover to extract them. 2. Drill them out by first center punching them and using a new drill bit drill them out to the point you can use an extractor on them. 3 If this fails you can get a helicoil set for this size of stud and drill for helicoil. 4 Remove head and take to machine shop and pay them to sweat it out. One of these should fit the bill for you. I do not know your level of experience and if you are inexperienced I would highly suggest letting someone who knows what they are doing to do this. It can be very tricky at best. I hope this helps Good Luck

Another option they sell these stud removers, they look like big nuts and are star shaped on the inside but they work so much better than drilling it out.. Its very easy, you basicly nail it into the stud and you take a wrench and remove it. Just go to Sears and ask them there im sure they would help you out. Its an easy fix dont worry about breaking the studs if there old they should be replaced. Just get the manifold off and then work on it. Good luck
