so I'm looking for a future car thats awd and turbo. i see the perfect car on craigslist but it says "needs timing belt" would it be worth buying the car knowing that valves could be bent? I'm trying to flip cars until i find the car i really like.

and its going for 675 but im sure i can talk em down

Depends on the condition of the car. Timing belts are easy to do yourself and also easy to mess up doing yourself. Figure if it has bent valves you can find heads on here for ~$250 shipped. How does the rest of the car look?

Better yet, link?

which would be a better bet? i have a t25 turbo just in case anything happens. im only going to have like $2000 to work with and idk what the smart thing would be. head gasket sounds easier to mess with than bent valves if their even bent.

Either way the head has to come off and either way the headgasket/timing has to be changed.

The second one LOOKS better, however, neither have sufficient pictures to make a good judgment, not information either. The 1g has primer up front making me think it's been in an accident. Judging by the ad and the pictures the car probably hasn't been fixed properly and you're looking at more than you want as far as a project goes, however, that's not a bad price assuming everything lines up good.

You need to find more info before it's worth anything.

i know either way their gonna need fixing but im saying which one is worth it? the tsi has some goodies that id need. im thinkin the cheap one would be better because i can just part it out if i need to. you guys are barely helping ;) how do you blow a head gasket anyways?

How can we help when we don't know shit about the cars? You don't even know anything about them.

You blow the headgasket from 1) too much boost, and 2) beating the piss out of it without properly maintaining it.

Seriously, just go look at the cars and see what YOU think of them.

Hard to say just like that. Usually a timing belt doesn't just break for no reason, something must have cause this to happen. And a broken timing belt could be as easy as just replacing it, or as bad as having to change valves, pistons, maybe even the head etc. If you can see the damage for yourself and you have a bit of know how you could go with it but you could def. find something better.

fer sure. thanks guys but no need for the attitude. ima wait to see if better things com my way

or would this be a better car for the money? !!!91 Eagle Talon TSI AWD!!!

LOL tell me about it

offer him 1000 for the one with the blown HG, if everything else looks good. 2000 for a car that will need motor work is way to high for a 91.

Also, sell the t25. AS long as you are looking at 1G cars, especially with motors that have a 14B or 16G, the t25 is useless to you, unless you get a 2g.

he paid 2000 at an auction for it. he said he will go as low as 1600. i laughed along with other people but that what he said. max ill pay for his car would be like 1200
