So I just bought a 92 Eagle Talon TSI from a tow yard for a couple hundred dollars and I towed it home on a flat bed. The car had about 91000 miles on it. After putting a new battery in, I tried to start it but the motor would feel like it wasn't even gonna start, it would just make the usual starter noise. I opened up the top cover for the cam gears and saw that the timing belt was shredded...really badly. So now I need to know what I should do next in order to get this car running. It will be my daily driver but it would be nice to have a 400 whp daily driver. I do have a little money saved since I bought the car for cheap. I've got the Haynes manual for the car in the mail on its way to me. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

check valves, lifters, piston heads, rods all that stuff

What he said. My buddy snapped a t belt and he damage his valve, dented his pistons, not to sure what happend to the rods. But you can be sure that the valves are for surely f'd up, but you might get lucky with the lower end.

Ok, so I guess I'll take the heads off and take a look. Should I get them ported since they're coming off anyway? Also does anyone know of a good head porter that can do the work? Anything else I should change/upgrade while I have the heads off? Doesn't seem to hard to get off except for all the hoses and wiring.
Thanks

More that likely your head is toast.....
I'd get a remanufactured stk head with revised lifters, new rockers, and new cams.... steel head gasket and ARP studs.
When a T-belt goes, it really shocks the system, it can really damage a lot of things, cam bearing surfaces, pit cam lobes, all kinds of sh!t can happen.....

Forget about porting a 1g head, they flow pretty awesome anyway....
If you can do the porting, by all means grind away....
If not, then you are going to blow a lot of money on labor and a few grinding bits....

A shitty valve train can cost you some ponies.... don't skimp....
But don't go wasting $1000 on a stage XXX head.....
Plus with huge porting jobs, comes big cams and a bigger intake manifold....
Strictly drag racing...... Daily driver I don't think so....

Have that head rebuilt if it's not too hammered.

I'd also have the bottom end gone thru, just to make sure my daily driver
wouldn't take a dump on me in the middle of a commute with a broken crankshaft or for some reason that same crankshaft desides to launch a conrod out the side of the block.
And as for the rest of the ordeal, should be straight forward, don't forget about a new front case and oil pump while you're at, and a new water pump, and a new crank shaft dampner pulley..... the list goes on and on.....

Good Luck

i bought my car for 1000 with a broken timing belt cuz im a dumbshit and really wanted it. anyways found a guy that would do the job for 500 to get it running(same as the cost to rebuild a head at another place) so sure why not. anyways he gets the head off and tells me its the worst hes ever seen. all valves bent like damn candy canes, wrecked valve guides, dinged pistons, and some other terrible things :( anyways i got a diff head from him had it rebuilt, pistons need a little surface 'grinding' or kindda buffed to get rid of little metal bits that could cause dettonation. he even set the timing (well ignition timing was way to advanced cuz he had the idle way up there, terrible milage!) anyways its usually half the valves and just needs a head rebuild. i got a 130k on mine too and i push that piece over 100mph quite often and nothings blown up. oh! and when those SOB's! tell u the tranny's good, tell them to suck a nut LOL jerks....... :thumbdown

hope urs turns out better than mine

jjsacidy, I know how you must've felt. I really wanted this car hella badly when I saw it in the tow yard. I always wanted a turbo all wheel drive. I haven't opened the engine up yet...waiting for this weekend. Did your mechanic take the whole motor out to fix the pistons and for only $500? Also where can I get a remanufactured head if need be? Anyone know of a place in the bay area that can rebuild the head?

what ever you do do not dive this car until it is completley fixed...i recently got my timing belt replaced and balance belt replaced becasue the person before did not put the balance belt on...cost me 1900 bucks to replace valve and pistons i bent and replaced the head gasket...not a fun way to loose money over something so stupid....
