Broken control arm?

I'm posting this for a friend. I took a look at the car but I couldn't really tell what it was? When he steers his car, only the passenger side of the wheel turns. The driver's side doesn't turn at all and its pointed way inside. This happened when he was making a right turn and something snapped. I took off the wheel and took a look at it and I can move the steering knuckle freely. I'm not sure if its the control arm or not but the piece that has a long flexing rubber part to it felt like it was broken inside. I can wiggle that part freely. Is that the control arm?

I did a couple of searches and it seems to be the inner tie rod. Do anyone think it can contribute to that? Seems like the inner tie rod is snapped. How hard is it to fix it?

If you're talking about just the end, it's not too difficult. Take the cotter pin out and then use a 14mm socket to crack the nut. You may have to use some leverage to "pin" the bolt to one side because it'll spin on you. After that, turn the nut circled in RED clockwise and then you can unscrew the tie rod end. Make sure you count threads or put a mark or something as to where the tie rod was so you don't get things all out of alignment. Clean everything up real nice and put a little grease in the little boot as well. I think this is what you're talking about. Good luck.

Thanks, but its not the the Tie rod ends. Its further in where the flexing rubber is. We got a whole rack and pinion from an eclipse RS. I think it should work.

Its cool, we went to go pick up a rack and pinion for free from a friend and we had it put in at a shop for only $150. They also gave him a free CV boot.
