broke exhaust mani stud, now leaking coolant HELP PLEASE

I have a broken manifold stud (actually a few of them) so I repaired all of them except one. Which was broken inside the head. So I drilled a small hole in the middle of the stud to start extracting it with a extractor. I guess I messed up and drilled to deep and now coolant is leaking out. It's the passenger side top stud. If i put a new stud with some silicone or teflon would that be ok to stop the leak and be alright to drive on like normal? or second, weld it shut and use the other studs to hold the manifold and go with that? thanks

which method do you suggest?
hoopdy? arent' those 84 MC, or cutlass, regal, basically anything old domestic and carb.

well, i think that you could probably get away with doing something like siliconing it. i think that welding it would be a much better idea though.

i actually have somewhat of a similar problem with my 1g.

if you tap the hole and the lay a crapload of silicone or jb weld on the stud it might hold it though.

ok. i got a minute to think and here is what i would really do.

i would tap the hole and make sure that you get a really good cut with the tap. dont run the tap in and out to much as you will remove more metal and make the threads looser. the tighter the stud fits the better. then put a little silicone around the stud and put it in.

hopefully the threads will be tight and the silicon can hold.

that would be my attempt to fix the problem.

copper silicone? i have used it on something similar and it works it wasnt on a dsm it was on a different vehicle its worth a shot make sure you let it cure tho

I actually did the same thing many years back. I took the head to the machine shop. They actually used some type of silicone on it. They pressure tested it and I never had a problem/leak again
