I recently tinted my tails on my talon with vht niteshades but I think I may have applied too many coats. I was heading home the other night and passed a a couple of cops sitting in a parking lot talking about a mile ahead they come flying up on me and immediately pull me over and harass and lecture me for around 30 minutes. He tells me the reason he pulled me over was I didn't have any taillights or brakelights all the while his buddy is at my passenger side window with his flashlight all in my face. I knew I had a taillight out on my drivers side but didn't know what he was talking about when he said I had no taillights or brakelights. I kept my cool and temper in check and after a 30 minute lecture his buddy tells me to ride with my flashers on. I get out and look and the lights are dimmer after the tinting but still very visible and nowhere near as big as of deal they made it all the while they sit there and watch and then proceed to follow me for about 5 miles until I pull into our Wal-mart parking lot and walk inside. I buy a bulb and replace the blown drivers side bulb. I love the look of the tinted tails but don't want to go through the bs everytime I'm out at night. I'm thinking of just putting higher watt bulbs in but don't want to melt the harness or anything. BOTTOM LINE any way to achieve brighter taillights and brakelights without melting the harness? Any input is appreciated.

higher wattage bulb

I appreciate the response. Can someone add to this I'm not sure how high of a wattage to get without melting the harness? Whats the stock wattage and what wattage would you recommend without being to high to melt the wiring harness?

Those LED bulbs are barely bright enough to be acceptable in a stock housing.
Now that you have blacked out your lenses you cannot hope to ever use PNP LEDs.

Your only chance is to try some higher output filament bulbs but you will likely have some heat issues if you use the brakes a lot. The system was designed for standard 1157 bulbs and anything hotter could be trouble. You should not fry your wires if the current is too high as that should blow a fuse. It is more likely that you will melt the plastic bulb sockets.

You probably need to wet sand and buff all the paint back off for another attempt or look for another set and do it again with less coverage.
