Brought my car to a friend to get tuned and ran into some problems.
Running 19psi doing 3rd gear pulls the car is breaking up under WOT.
If I use half throttle or less it'll make a clean pull.
Tried swapping coils, power transistor, fresh plugs (ngk6's), wires, MAF
When we swapped wires the problem got worse. The wires we tried were used
So that led me to believe my wires were bad also. I bought new wires and the problem is still there. The tuner believes its ignition related (spark blow out)
I'm not sure what to do now. I've read countless threads on here and have tried everything I pulled from here. Any suggestions?
I'm thinking next step change tps, alternator test.

Either a boost leak or a blown turbo. Check your turbo for shaft play. Mine was blown and doing the same thing

Did a boost leak test before we left to tune. No leaks, tested to 25psi. Mods are in my profile.
Turbo was just rebuilt. If we lower the boost it seems to even itself out. My friend said the tune is not the problem, it's something ignition related. I'm open to any suggestions but I've expressed a boost leak test many many times. ONLY Under WOT does it break up. I can ease through 3rd to redline and its smooth.
I did not log since he was doing the tune while I drove.

check igniter...also make sure ## alt belt is tight..mine was a lil loose and after a few turns...it wudnt break up on WOT

I am not familiar with the "igniter".. Explain? As for the alternator belt I'll give it a few turns for the tight. At this point I'm trying anything!

nvm, read more into "ignitor" and found its the transistor. I've changed that already. All parts were off a running non issue having 2g

Well I woke up this morning and went to advance auto and picked up some ngk8's.
The ride to the store on 19 psi was still breaking up. I pulled the old plugs and threw in the
8's gapped at .25, immediately took it for a pull on the highway.
Did a hand full of 3rd gear pulls and everything checked out fine, watching the log
When it is not breaking up the log looks fine. When it breaks up the log gets all erratic.
Guy tuning my car thinks its ignition/electrical. So we added some grounds and cleaned up the existing ones.
Car breaks up on anything past 19psi still.

I'm at a loss now.

I actually changed exhaust gaskets, down pipe gasket before
I went to get tuned. Althought this seems like many different issues

im new to Ecmlink and normally leave all the tuning to the guys who know what they are doing. but i did a log today so you guys can take a peek.

i think i've figured out my problem.. what do you guys see on the log?

Well I thought I was overrunning my stock FPR so I put a new AFPR
on and the problem is still there. Has anyone looked at the log?

Whoever is tuning your car has no idea what they are doing. No offense if it was you.

You are pulling 10* of timing up top, running like 4* at 6000rpms. Your timing is too retarded at that point, as you can see you're getting some decent knock just from that. And that would cause a definite problem with breaking up in your top end.

I'm no link expert so hopefully somebody with more experience and insight can chime in. But I can tell you you are going to need to start with a new tune from scratch after you fix any issues your car may have. I am believing myself that it's from the low timing.

I don't touch the tuning aspect of my car.. I'll admit I am not
100% familiar with everything to go in and start adjusting.
I can do the basics. Are you suggesting I have some one
Take a second look at how the "tune" is? At this point
The way I see it is, It is what It is. If something is up with
The tune then I need to address that. If the problem lays
Elsewhere I need to find it.

Tuning yourself with Link is not a science. It's very easy and was designed to be super user friendly. I suggest you do some searching around and find out where to start. Here's a few links. If you are thinking about doing this, I will advise you to completely start fresh. That means clear your fuel table and set them for your corresponding injectors, zero out your timing table and your MAFComp. Then read these and get started:

ignition timing is way to conservitive. you need to get a little more aggresive with timing. as boost rolls in timing should be like 14*, more boost, 15*, more boost, 16*, more boost, 17*... every car is a bit differant but it seems like under 20psi+ power pulls on a dsm timing works best in the 17-19* neighborhood.

also, i think your plugs are gapped way to big. i once had this same problem. anything over about 27-28 psi from my hx40 and my upper RPM band would see masive break up. to fix this i chose regular 'ol NGK's (nothing over the top fancy) NGK number 8's (bpr8es) and kept gappin it smaller and smaller till problem went away.

i can now push 36-38psi on a 7blade 62mm super HX40. my plugs ended up being gapped super small at 18. oh, and dont use a POS universal plug gap checker lil cheap ass tool they try and sell ya at shucks for like $3. use a actuall pair of feeler gauges.

more boost means tighter plug gap. gap 'em super small like 20 or 19 and see what that gets ya. i bet problem solved

Well I took the tune and tossed it out the window. Uploaded
The evo 8 base tables. Did a few pulls off that and I'm now running
Over 20psi. I just installed my new wideband today so sometime
Soon I'll be doing some pulls and hopefully get it tuned better.

Sounds like you're on the right track now. You need to get yourself a new tuner. I used TSCompUSA on the Evo forums for 2 different tunes and I was never disappointed. Especially when you're doing a remote tune you need to be sure your guy knows what he's really doing.
