I seem to have a problem with my brakes. While braking i noticed the car would pull to one side then when i let off the brake it would straighten out. i thought there might be air in the lines so i went to bleed them. bled the front driver side caliper and noticed there was some air in the line. went to do the passenger side front and noticed when stepping on the brakes the caliper did not apply any pressure. i pulled the caliper off and pushed the brake, the piston did move. i am not really sure of what to do next. any one have any ideas on whats wrong, or what i could try to help troubleshoot this? my car is a 99 eclipse spyder gs. it has discs in the front and drums in the back. thanks

Sounds like your piston froze up and now you have a seized caliper. You can check into a rebuild kit for them or depending on the price, it might be about the same price to just pick up a new one from AutoZone.

I quick way to judge if your brakes are doing an equal amount of work side-to-side is simply to check the warmth of the wheels with your hand when you park. Often a sticky caliper will be hotter than the other side because it doesn't retract properly and drags all the time.

You might not want to press the brake pedal with the caliper off the rotor. You might push the cylinder all the way out and make a mess.

Rebuild kits are cheap, they are just new seals, but you still need to hone the cylinder and clean up the piston, another $15 or so if you don't have a cylinder hone.

Rebuilt calipers are around $50 (with core return) last I checked. $100 if you want it powder coated.

well i ran up to autozone and got a new caliper. put it on bled and bled the line. took it for a ride, pedal still has to be pushed pretty much to the floor before the car wiill start to slow down. cfame back and checked to see the temp of the brakes. the side with the new caliper was so hot it was smoking a bit. other side was pretty warm but not nearly as warm as the other side. did i do something wrong? could there be something else wrong? please help....thanks
