Alright, I have two problems that are probably related...

I have a squeek in the enging compartment, not a belt though, I think it's the alternator bearing and that's the reason why my car gets a dead battery every now and then. I'm taking that apart this week. But here's my problem.

Sometimes when I'm driving, the brake warning light and the alternator warning light come on *half way* they aren't very bright, and they sorta flicker, kinda like a fuel light when it's about to come on. It'll just happen for a few seconds then stop. Nothing else. Any ideas on this? Could it be the alternator? And no, the alternator warning light never comes on before I have a dead battery either.

Thanks!

the lights that come on with a failed alternator in a 1g are the coolant light, the battery light and the brake light... i know because mine just threw off a new belt and the tensioner bolt and the bracket :(

as for the squeal, don't discount the belt... mine was brand new, and squealing... i thought it was the power steering belt squealing, turns out the crappy looking tensioner bolt was crappy and it was my alternator belt...

sounds as if you might be right... the alternator is going out, not the belt, therefore the waterpump is still turning, and that light is not coming on... i'd suggest fixing that soon :) it's an easy 2 hour or less do it yourself fix...

if it goes, you got about 4 miles of driving if you aren't in hot weather before your car completely overheats...
