Pulled plugs out of a car that was running 11.8's with 26psi. Ran great just doing a tuen up, plugs were gaped at .035-.36?!

I would go no higher then .032

I think im getting a missfire at 23psi now with my plugs. I pulled them just tonight to have a peak and two were gapped at .030, one at .028 and one at .032. Not sure where the missfire was happening. I think my plugs are f'ed up and gonna need to be replaced. Seems like I'm getting maybe two races and some daily driving out of them tops now.

Anybody else seem to have really short plug life?

Have you ever tried BR7ES? THey are a non projected tip and work great for me.

No, not sure why you wouldn't want a projected tip not that I know what a project tip does in terms of spart plug performance anyway.

You find that your replacing a couple sets of plugs a year?

I am running the BR7ES non protruding also, and I recomend them to everyone. These plugs alone took away 7 count knock dwon to zero, and if you look around, their are many people who have experienced the same things.

Jim, I also go through a few sets of plugs a year. I change mine every 3 months. There's always a noticeable difference after I change out the plugs. I don't know why they wear down so quickly, but I'll give the BR7ES's a try.

By sticking out further into the combustion chamber, projected tips will both heat up more quickly and then be cooled more by the incoming fuel/air charge. Also, being more exposed to combustion heat and turbulence, they are more effectively self-cleaning. Finally, having the spark just that much more elevated from the shrouding of the tip provides more efficient combustion initiation and flame propogation.

OK, so your saying to run a Projected tip plug then? That is what I have alway run and found they don't really last that long which is not a problem however it's sort of annoying.

You forgot about the greater tendency for detonation due to the spark plug being right smack in the middle of the combustion chamber. The spark plug retain mass amounts of heat, and can easialy become a hot spot in which detionation can spur from. This is why I, and others, have switched and watched our knock counts plumit.

As fir durrability, I ran all last summer with one set, and they never needed changing, never experienced a miss, nothing.

Jim:

I usually only change my plugs after I've went to the track (which is more frequent in the fall ..temps are just to hot during the summer). Otherwise, they seem to be just fine. As Defiant explained above, thats why I use them. Sorry, I guess I could have explained myself abit better.

For pure racing, they won't last as well. In street use, their projecting is what cools them better every time the intake opens and cool air and fuel enter the combustion chamber- it cools more of the electrode than it will with a non-projected tip.

The greater majority of us don't run on the raggedy edge of detonation for most of our mileage.

Yes, but Jim is making good power, and with a nice tune to pop off some 11's that difference in knock will be HUGE.

FOr a stocker daily driver, I would use the BPR, but for anything beyond lightly modded, I would opt for the BR7's
