I had wanted to have the turbo installed by now but seeing how this was Easter weekend I didn't get much done. I did manage to work on the trailer a bit and I constructed a plywood box to house our tools and spares. The idea was to keep the car as empty as possible so when we get to the tracks we can just un-hook the trailer and go right out on track. We also needed a place to keep our stuff dry and a place to keep things locked up when we manage to find a place to sleep for the night.

On Friday morning I got started. The box is made out of 1/2 plywood and 2x2's. The top is made from 3/8 plywood to keep it light and is hinged in the front so we can open the whole top. The rear opens like a pick-up truck bed so if we need to get at our tools we don't have to open the whole trailer. That's going to help keep everything dry.

Saturday I managed to get a few hours in the afternoon in. One of the things we found wrong with the car from our weekend at Beaverun was that on of the RRE caster/camber plates needed a spherical bearing. I sent a few notes to Mike at RRE and he was really helpful. If anyone's dealt with RRE you'll know that they have the best customer service in the DSM world. Mike didn't have the bearings in stock and he knew it was going to take him a while to get and that the cost would be pretty high. So he gave me the part numbers and helped me order them myself. That saved a lot of money and time.

Once I had the plates out of the car there was a snap ring that had to be removed and with a little light press work the old ones came out and the new ones went in. What a difference those suckers made. The car is quiet and turns in light a laser. I should have replaced these things years ago.

Next up is the turbo installation and I need to get another v-band clamp in the exhaust.

We'll be going so fast there should be a time warp behind the One Lap VR4 so it won't matter what shape the trailer is.

and Rick I have to let the white paint dry before I can put any stripes on it...

i like how its just a box, packing a spare engine in there with a hoist or what? grab a uhaul and carry a spare car, knowing dsms and there breakdown ratio i would be packing a lot of stuff

You would be surprised how much room three back packs, three helmets, three drivers suits, and three pairs of driving shoes takes. Add on to that a floor jack, jack stands, two 255 wide spares, and tools and you can see there is no way it would all fit in the car. That doesn't even take into account ANY spare parts. There are parts that just have to go with us like, transmission, transfer case, spare turbo, alternator, starter, ecu, MAF, couplers, clamps, etc..etc..etc. The box is sized so we can get everything in it. That way when we get to the track all we have to do is just unhook the trailer and drive strait out on the track. It'll also let us pack a few nice things like a folding bike and some chairs.

One of the down sides to the trailer is gas mileage. We averaged 23mpg down and back to Beaverun with three guys and most of the spares/tools. With the trailer I would imagine we are going to loose a few mpg's.

Yeah thats like towing a brick... Could add a small spoiler to keep the wind off the back and keep the drag down. Also, even a little front end "nose" on that thing would help a lot.

Put a hatch on top of the triangle... viola more space for clothes. Put heavier things on the rear and you're gold.
