i just sold my eclipse rs and am going to buy a gst this week end :thumb: i am new to this stuff and this site. i know alot of people probubly ask this but i could never find the answer. i know if i just put a bov on that vents to the atmosphere the car wont run right because the computer is sending the fuel for that little extra air and the engine is not getting the air. what can be done to eliminate this problem? all i realy want is the sound but i dont want to lose any performance. any help will be great. thanks for your time and help.

When venting to atmosphere, you can use the safc-II and it's dec. air function. You can lean out the mixture when the throttle plate closes. The stock maf sees that the air is coing into the engine, when it is really going to atmosphere when off throttle. The SAFC-II, not sure about the old afc, will help solve this.

Couldn't find the answer? It seems like every 5th thread posted in the Tuning Talk or in the Engine Performance forums is about venting; why it's bad, how to do it if you really want to...

Yes, venting is bad and you're performance would suffer do to it. Some solutions; get a greddy type-s and stil have it re-routed back into the intake. It still sounds loud even when it's re-routed back in. Or you can go with a gm-maf translator solution. This uses a new gm maf (the 2g maf is gone), and the new maf can be placed after the bov, so that you can vent the air because it has not been metered yet. But this solution can be quite expensive:
gm maf - $100
translator - $200
upper ic piping - $225
new intake pipe & filter - $100

So for $625 you could vent properly. Starting out with a new eclipse, I can think of a lot better ways to spend $625.

Yeah, you must be new... Quick tip for you, the safcI or safcII can NOT help when venting a bov on the stock maf. Even if it could, you are trying to fix the problem of venting the bov (which wasn't meant to be vented) by changing fuel mixtures; that's not a solution, that's a terrible hack. The SOLUTION would be to not vent the bov.

If you are DYING to do it, then do it right and get a maft setup. Gosh, just when you thought the world was getting better with people understanding not to vent, someone gives out this advice... :thumbdown

My eyes are going to roll back into my head and my heads gonna spin if I hear this asked again... I wish there was a filter when you choose post new topic that just wouldn't allow it :thumb:

ok i got my answer you guys can stop being d#$$ about me asking it again thanks to blk_99gst now i now the greddy type s will still sound cool. no thanks to any of you other people that just like hating people insted of trying to help someone that dont know what they are doing yet

I'm sorry bro. It's just that venting, fuel cut, throwing on big turbos, and things like that have been discussed once a day for the history of DSMtuners. There's articles in the tech section about them and VFAQs also. Stuff like that isn't hard to find so repetitive questions get... well... repetitive. :thumb:

eclipse-gst339, chill out a little. Yes I can see it from your point of view where you are asking a simple question, and people get on your case about it. But look about it from our point of view. I've been on this board for several years now, and the venting question comes up literally every week, if not more often. So some of us just get tired of seeing the same thing. Especially when there is a search feature, and vfaq section about the question.

And when you talk about people hating on you because you don't know what you are doing yet; we all started out new. And the best thing to do when you are new is to read as much as possible. Read about venting. In those threads you'd find people mentioning the maft. Then search for maft and find out what that is all about. Just some suggestions... :)

The Type-S does not sound cool, it sounds like your car is sneezing like a sissy 12 year old cheerleader.
