I want to learn how do Disassemble and assemble an engine block. I was going to have a shop do the work to the bottom end but i want to save a bit of money and do some of the work myself, basically send it to them for machining.

If some things require expensive tools or are really complicated maybe ill have them put part of it together. I would like to at least install the pistons onto the crank. Get some type of experience out of it. I just don't have the money to buy all the tools if many are required. but i wouldn't mind buying a few to start.

Whats the question? If it is about tools you will want to buy a piston ring gap tool ( aka. piston ring filer), feeler gauges, torque wrench, and a ridge reamer (might be forgetting something). You do have all the basic hand tools already right?

You can disassemble it yourself, and I recommend it. It will help you learn where everything goes and how everything works. As far as re-assembly it can be difficult and time consuming to do properly, and I would read and research plenty before actually attempting it. You will also need a few tools such as a ring filer, a bore gauge, stretch gauge, torque wrench (ft lbs), torque wrench (in. lbs), feeler gauges, and I'm probably forgetting a few...
