Boring Out 2g 420A Throttle Body

You don't technically bore it out; unless, of course, you add material to the IM throat (there is not enough material in the intake thoat). What you do is port match the intake to the 60mm TB and taper down from there.

And it is a helluva bump for that air to come down the 60mm TB and hit the step of the intake that hasn't been at least port matched.

i just bought the one out of ebay... it came in nice i swap the sensors just in case, the put it in the car and work with the idle screw because it wasnt adjusted at all. it took me about 2 minutes, to have it idling even better than before. i paid 120 dollars with no core charged.. ive been turbo and i noticed a small changed on performance. better throttle response deff...Therefore IS DEFF WORTH IT LOL

by all of this im taking it that the idea is to come as close as possible matching up the ports of the TB and IM so as to achieve perfect, undisturbed air flow, correct?

so, im running 19 pounds of boost, prob tuning for more in the future...

stock IM and TB, but i was looking to get a new throttle body soon, and i cant decide on what size to go with having a stock IM and all, whats the biggest size i can go with without doing harm

60mm?

Before causing harm, you can't really go too big. As big as you can afford - though the bigger your TB is, the twitchier your engine will be. It will take less pedal to get more revs.

On really big TB's (q45 and such) you can make a cable pulley with a larger cam on it, or just add a lever to act similarly to a cam. This will put more of a curve to the action between the pedal and the throttle plate, making it more tame off idle.

The Q45 TB's actually have a sort of compound cam mechanism. At lower throttle positions the pedal is more controllable than it would be with a simple cam.

Interesting, I hadn't a clue about that. Enough so to make it livable on our engines? Perhaps Slippi would be the better person to ask. Do you recall if he actually drove his 2gnt with the Q45 on it?

Although, in my defense, (ignorance?) I was using the Q45 as an example of a very large TB.

I have absolutely no idea on either counts. I've only held a Q45 in my hands, never driven a car with one. I imagine it would make driving a car with one more tolerable, but to what degree... I don't know.

I also don't know if Slippi ever drove his 2GNT with the Q45. I would hope so!

Just got my tb bored to 60mm whats the general thoughts on my im? would 60mm be the best or is there a better combo

how much hp does it really give you
?

it's only a few HP tops, but the difference in throttle response is very noticable.

once you've got other supporting modifications that really require better flow it can make a much bigger difference to the HP numbers.

it's not really a modification that "gives" you more ponies, it's more of an "uncorking" of the potential of the engine.

FWIW I just went with an automatic Jeep cherokee TB and modded it. $15 for the TB at a yard (there were TONS to chose from) and a few hours of time. 60mm straight through :D

Ive read reviews on CI and they werent exactly all the best. A couple of the people had problems with the throttle plate not completely closing sp they were having idle problems. Some people have had good service so things might have changed or its just hit or miss with them. But, as others have said they are one of very few companies that support the 420a so you could try it out and see what happens.

i bought a 55mm. tb from ci and i must say it has indeed helped my throtle response and high end tourque. i also have had problems with my throtle sticking a bit and i noticed my tb wasnt closeing all the way. examining it futrther i noticed the the butterfly plate and shaft had shifted and the butterfly plate was whereing on eather side where the shaft passes through the houseing. i removed the tps. and noticed that the a stop washer was missig behind the c clip couseing the valve assembly to shift from side to side. smply add a washer behind the c clip at the end of the shaft behind the tps.
